An Independent Agent got my Dad a homeowners policy last November 2017. My Dad's 86 yrs. old and I'm in my 60's and disabled. We received a letter of 'non-renewal' for the following reasons. 1.) I Have multiple units covered by this organization. They admit making a billing mistake not billing one of my properties for a year plus. Underwriting asleep? I find out the hard way when processing a loan for another acquisition that when requesting binder I wake them up to THEIR billing error. Sure I should have recognized through better accounting on my end but really? All that hits my desk gets paid. We do acknowledge the error and we have subsequently reached out to the customer with a formal letter of apology. Although the customer’s credit score was in no way be impacted by this incident, we nevertheless regret the error.
I recently moved out of state, and still owned my home back in NY. The current policy needed to be updated to a landlord policy, as I no longer resided in the home (house was rented out). My agent found the most competitive price to be with Vermont Mutual (VM). They required a visual inspection of the house, which was then set up. A few days after the inspection took place, my agent advised that VM was going to cancel my policy as it was deemed uninsurable!!! Having just changed to Vermont Mutual from another carrier, I am at a loss for words that they use vague guidelines to find small loop holes to deny claims. I have been driving professionally (CDL-A) for over 20+ years and have never heard of such a denial of coverage. Homeowners BEWARE! We recently purchased a homeowners policy from this company at the end of June 2017. Now its August - due to "system upgrades" we still do not have a copy of the policy available as proof of coverage. My insurance broker keeps getting the run around from the underwriters. Based on experience so far I have asked broker to start shopping other companies. If its this hard to get a copy of the policy I can't imagine the nightmare we would have if we ever filed a claim.

I have had Vermont Mutual Car insurance since I bought my first car at 19. This company is fantastic! Every year my insurance has gone down, granted I have never been in an accident or received a ticket. I am now 23 and will continue to have them as my insurance company for years to come!
customer of 5 years, pay my insurance in full every January. bought a new car in august and received a bill for 281. in October as my policy increased due to the value of the newer car. i pay the bill in full through electronic check as i always do. two weeks later i get a refund for the 281. in the mail. two weeks after that i get a cancellation notice in the mail and a 25. late fee. i call my broker and they have no idea why "Vermont mutual dropped the Ball" so i called Vermont mutual. the women says " ya i know i already ... read more

With this payment, that policy premium balance was overpaid and Vermont Mutual returned the overpayment via a check mailed directly to our customer. 15 year customer with home and car. I have never had a claim with the car. Had my kids spill a gallon of milk and not tell me in the back carpets. I tried to get them cleaned professionally twice. No luck. Went to the dealership to get them replaced and reinstalled carpet and Vermont Mutual comes up with every run around in the book to not authorize the replacement carpet.
