Extremely poor customer service, they will try to do anything they can to get out of paying a claim and are not there for you when you need them even after paying thousands in premiums. We will be moving all 3 of our policies to someone else after they took such bad care of us.
We are dealing with this insurance company for the first time. Our Airstream Camper has a damaged floor due to a leak which has occurred during its storage. Due to Covid, we could not get it out of storage (in NH and we are in VT) last summer. Camping was not possible due to Covid. They are so far not responding with our request for an adjuster to visit ****** RV in Burlington. They have not even called ****** RV and it has been a week. Having read the reviews below, I am very concerned that we will be disappointed in Vermont... read more
Business response:
This claim was reported to Vermont Mutual on July 26, 2021. On July 28, 2021 our field appraiser went to the location of the camper, ******** in **********, **. Unfortunately, the staff at ******** could not locate the camper for inspection, and after waiting approximately forty-five minutes our field appraiser had to leave for another scheduled appointment. Another inspection appointment was set for July 30, 2021. Once Vermont Mutual has received the inspection report we will contact the customer to review the results.
I have been trying to get my manufactured home fixed since June 5, 2020. The adjuster has been slow and is arguing that he will not pay for certain things such as windows leaking, siding and other items. I have holes in the back of my house, put there by the adjuster wanting to see what type of damage I have, that includes water, mold, mildew, and rot. The adjuster has been quick on what he says he will not pay for and has been trying to disallow the fact I have loose shingles on my roof, He stated that all shingles are on t... read more
Terrible company to deal with. Having reached a personal injury settlement in April 2020, this company is INSISTING on overpaying a negotiated ******** bill of $700 and pocketing $4300 of my settlement. DESPICABLE, low lifes.

My garage was destroyed in a storm and it was a nightmare working with Vermont Mutual and their adjuster (*******). I spent hours and hours collecting quotes, studying building code, trying to get my towns building inspector (BI) to ease requirements to VM's liking, and talking to the adjuster. At first, adjuster seemed professional and empathetic and I got a check for roughly 2/3 of a realistic cost. Among the many infuriating comments I continually got over 18 months: "we've given you a fair estimate" (VM doesn't decide "f... read more

To whom it may concern, The customer suffered a covered loss to their detached one car garage that required it be completely replaced. The customer electively chose to enlarge the garage when they replaced it. That choice to modify the garage triggered different building code requirements for the foundation footings that otherwise would not be required for the original one car garage. We retained an engineer to confirm that no building code required deeper footings for the one car garage, only for larger structures. The loca... read more
On February 6, 2015, our 1785 built Concord, New Hampshire Colonial home, used in the Underground Railroad and with Harriet Tubman, was severely damaged by ice dams, with snow, ice and water coming in, ruining our new November 2014 re-roof and causing severe indoor and outdoor damage. We were "covered" by Vermont Mutual for the following amounts: $728,000 dwelling, $72,800 other structures, $509,600 personal property, and $145,600, policy H01 7-09-47-43, and made a claim with them the next day, February 7, 2015 . Their adjus... read more

Please provide us with either a claim # or policy #. We are not able to locate a policy # for this name. Thank you kindly. Christine
BUYER BEWARE. Very dishonest. Used to be a customer for 2 years and even though I’m no longer insured, I’ve been charged for 3 months in a row now. I’ve been trying to contact them nonstop and have heard nothing back. Avoid at all costs.
Business response:
Mr. ******** we are sorry to have received your complaint. We have examined your case thoroughly but can find no record of your trying to contact us: neither by phone, email, social media nor through your Independent Insurance Agent. Please know that we were first notified of your departure from Vermont Mutual through your new insurer. It should be noted as well that your former policy was set up on an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) billing plan which is set to automatically withdraw funds on the 15th of each month. It appe... read more
Great if you are the insurer...they ***** you over and are very rude if your the claimant and the one that isn’t at fault ?? even my ********** ****** Company found Karen in claims VERY rude and inaccurate on their facts and decisions. Not to mention when you tried to speak to a supervisor he was on vacation until the 6th apparently leaving no one else to speak to. Take their time sending you paperwork and take their time paying off your totaled car even though it was their insurer that crashed into you and was found at faul... read more

Unfortunately, the consumer received inaccurate information from the rental facility regarding how long she might be able to keep the rental vehicle. We explained that she had received inaccurate information, and we proceeded to authorize the rental for an appropriate amount of days under the circumstances of this claim. We feel the consumer was treated fairly by our staff and we are available to address any concerns. Vermont Mutual strives to handle all claims issues appropriately.
