A Little VAINity Goes a Long Way – Spend just a little time here and you'll just look like you're vain. OK . . . this is from a guy's point of view. Vain's stylists and all personnel have always been good to me. Everything from being patient with me as I try to work a cut into my schedule, to getting water for me as soon as I get in the door, and even has magazines that aren't 5 years old. Don't waste your time – First off, it takes a lot for me to be moved to a point of frustration necessary to write a negative post on any small business. I've been going to Vain pretty much since it opened. In that time, I've had several negative experiences with the scheduling of appointments, and overall attitude of the staff. The latest was the straw that broke the proverbial camel's back. Impressed so far – I am new to Austin, and I have tried out one other salon which ended up being a not so good experience. I tried Vain at the urging of a friend who goes there and who has lived in Austin for awhile. I have to tell you, I was amazed with the staff! They know their stuff! I had an appointment with Mark, and he was so great about consulting with me on what I wanted in a hairstyle. Where Esther goes, I will follow – I followed Esther from Hairy Situations to Vain. She was the first stylist I ever had who I was instantly comfortable with, and it's at the point now where I can sit down and say, "I just want more... stuff. Whatever you think looks good," and everytime, I walk out with exactly the cut I wanted. All the stylists are fun and friendly, and the whole atmosphere is really warm and laid-back. I adore this salon!
Ask for Mark – I followed Mark from Wet Salon to Vain. He knows how to communicate with his clients, so we always leave satisfied. I always get a great haircut and I would highly recommend MARK!!! I love the salon and have been to other stylists there who were also great. You really can't go wrong there, so if Mark isn't available, I firmly believe that you will be satisfied with any of the stylists.
Six months and ready for six more. – In May, I graduated college, dropped everything, and moved to Austin. It was a scary time, and the last thing I needed was drama in finding a good hair salon. Love my haircut! – I got my haircut yesterday during a downpour. Although it looked great when Joey was finished with it, I fully expected to hate my hair by the time I got home (it tends towards the curlyfrizzyunruly). What do you know -- I still love it. Joey really knows hair. I've been to lots of lots of places in Austin but this is the first time a stylist has actually taken the time to figure out what is going to work on me. Love it love it!
Best Haircut and color – Joey, the salon owner, is amazing! She is an expert at listening to what I want and then making it happen. Each and every time I see her, she consults with me on my hair likes/dislikes and then provides suggestions to keep the style fresh and current. She is a true joy to see and an excellent hairstylist. Over the years of living in Austin and getting haircuts from so many different stylist, I can honestly say that Joey is one of the BEST!!!
Not recommended. – I was looking forward to my visit to Vain, but ultimately I was disappointed. The salon itself was fun and delightful, and Joey was warm, personable, and very nice. But I got an absolutely horrid haircut. There was an over-reliance on texturizing, which is getting old already. The cut is completely inappropriate for me, terribly unattractive, and absolutely impossible to work with. I can't wait for my hair to grow out.
