I hear nightmare stories from other Veterans around the country. WhenI tell them about McGuire, and bring them to see for themselves, they want to move here. In fact one did. I'm very happy with the service at my VA, and like the constant improvements I see, such as automated travel compensation. Keep it up, McGuire!
I guess other VA's don't follow the same model as the one in Richmond Va. Not one time in my 7 years have I waited more than maybe 2 minutes past my appointment time. They have onsite dorms for homeless Veterans. They actually care and it shows. I have the best PCP there is. She knows me well, listens and takes the time to come up with a plan together.
Richmond VA saved my life when they implanted the LVAD for me. Nothing but good things to say about VA. I'm blessed!

Wait times for appointments and procedures are abysmal. They are completely understaffed. I am a dependent and so I don't have the VA ID card my husband does. Parking is such a huge issue that using the valet service is often the only way to get parked within a reasonable period of time. However, without that ID card or an appointment card (I don't always have an appointment card if the appointment was made quickly), I'm told that I'm not allowed to use the valet service even if I show my military ID and my ChampVA card. You can get lost, the signs are small and confusing
My PCP is very knowledgeable and easy to talk too and access.
