Terrible standard of care. I was referred by my PCP for a consultation with Alma since this is what UPMC offers as far as hematology. Alma was rude, made me feel like I had no business being in her office, and said that insurance wound never approve iron infusions for me. Thankfully I requested a second opinion and was treated by Andrews Patel / PSH who ordered me 5 rounds of iron infusions (which were covered by insurance), and all my symptoms resolved. Had Alma as a provider, unfortunately. Atrocious bedside manner paired with confrontational tone. At today’s visit visibly upset by turning to me and saying “I know you don’t like me”. I replied I don’t always appreciate your tone or delivery. Then there was a msg she sent that I did not see (not in messages in the portal but a comment on lab results from prior) even though I had scheduled what was in the message anyway- an appointment they cancelled the morning of. I'm sorry, but the way that the receptionist acts to people on the phone are not only rude but just simply unprofessional. There is no need to talk down on us if we're just there to schedule an appointment. They really need to either find a better suited receptionist that actually cares about their job or give this specific one a major talking to on how to talk to other people. Simply unacceptable.

They've had my referral for almost a month. I was told repeatedly that it was in the manager's hand. I had to call REPEATEDLY to get an update. Finally had to have an advocate reach out and then they scheduled me for 4 months out. UPMC in general has let me down repeatedly on this medical journey I am own. Hematology is no different as of yet. These are peoples lives and health being mishandled.
