Avoid for Relaxers + Haircuts – I went to Turning Heads for a relaxer and a cut - and I will never go back! It was expensive, though that is really not the problem - the result was not worth the price - or any price for that matter. My hair was cut way more than I wanted, it was styled full and curly - not sleek and straight like I asked and if that was not enough it was not cut straight! So much so that I had to go back three days later to have it "fixed" - only to leave the salon with it still being messed up. I mean it wa... read more
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SILKENER, DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON!!! – I visited this salon based on a referral from Miss Jessie's, another salon which temporily closed. I was told they performed a similar process to the Silkener. I knew that the process was different to Miss Jessie's, but I was told I would get a similiar, if not, the same result. The stylist applied Curly Pudding and put me under the dryer. I came out of that dryer looking like a bird's nest - my hair is several different textures, there are two LONG and STRAIGHT... read more
An Excellent Choice – Excellent salon. Timeliness at this salon is one of its major selling points. When making an appointment you can expect to have your time respected and to receive focused and attentive hair care by knowledgeable stylists--as most of us have learned the hard way, this feature alone is priceless. Also, for anyone considering loc extensions, this salon is unbeatable--I just received a full head of loc extensions and have been receiving non-stop compliments from other loc-wearers who assume I have been grow... read more
Braids, weaves and body treatments at this Harlem spa catering to the African-American community. – In Short Located into a recently renovated brownstone, this day spa is a haven for neighborhood customers seeking sophisticated hairstyles and a bit of relaxation. From texurizing and lengthening with extensions to adding color with highlights, this salon knows a thing or two about keeping hair (natural and enhanced) beautiful. Beyond the scalp, body treatments moisturize dry skin and soothe muscles--like the rosemary mint bod... read more
NEVER AGAIN!! – I can't speak on the spa service, it may be great, but the hair service was terrible for me. I thought this salon specialized in natural hair. When I told them i wanted a flat iron my natural hair, i was looked as if i was crazy and and it was impossible. The shampoo lady was terrible telling me about how my hair was. I don't mind someone telling me about proper hair care , but don't scold me like a child and act like you are annoyed just becuase I don't have a perm. I like the humidifying conditioner treatme... read more
Great Spa Experience – I became a client of Turning Heads early-on, shortly after it opened at its present location and use the services in the spa as my little mini-vacation get away. It is always such a restorative experience. It is so wonderful to finally find an attractive, soothing environment staffed by professionals who always seem so willing to assist. There are several spa services that I have used, but the one that I, personally, find most beneficial is the reflexology. At the end of the session I am totally aware ... read more
An Oasis in Harlem – A one stop shop for total relaxation, pampering and a head turning hairstyle (hence the name). l LOVE Turning Heads!!! The atmosphere is great -- calming and smells beautiful. The massage therapists and estheticians are professional and pampering while giving you a service that is worth far more than the price you will pay. The spa area is intimate and inviting. Get your hair done in a natural or straight style by any one of the stylists and you will look and feel like a million bucks!
PHENOMENAL FACIALS! – If you want a phenomenal facial in New York City, Turning Heads is the place to go! The facialists truly have a passion for their craft. They are knowledgeable and passionate about skincare. They do not push products...which is always a plus.
If you want compliments... – on your locs or natural hair styles go to Turning Heads. The creativity and skill of the stylists are unsurpassed for Harlem salons. I treat my self once a month to spa quality treatments that keep my hair healthy and a style that 'turns heads'. The prices are not cheap, but if you believe in getting what you pay for, you won't be disappointed... you are worth it!
