Avoid Tsunami altogether – The food at Tsunami is fine, some of it even good. But certainly disappointing based on my expectations. I could have lived with the food had it not been for a particularly snooty and inattentive wait staff. I'm not sure why they had so much attitude, but the food isn't special enough to merit it. The food took 2 hours to come out, which would have been ok if it were fantastic food.
Tsunami, subpar – My girlfriend and I ate there on April 8th, 2006. We arrived for their advertised happy hour between 6-7. We sat at the bar. The bartender acted is if we were a bother. She was vague about which items where on the happy hour. It was a struggle to get her to be explicit. My girlfriend made the mistake of asking and purchasing the bartender's food and sake recommendation. The happy hour bill ended up being $100 for two. The sushi was average the service was poor. I won't be going back.
Good First Date Spot – This was one of the first places I took a date to and so far hasn't disappointed. They have really good food presentation and sake selection. The sake sampler is definately a good idea, plus it is kind of fun for you and your date to try different kinds of sake :)
Tsunami rocks! – Okay, so I just joined CitySearch specifically to respond to "bemymuse's" ridiculous and totally off-base review. She claims the service was bad, the food was mediocre and the waitress was "plain & dowdy." I mean, come on! Who says something like that when they're reviewing a restaurant? I think most people here, like the reviewer before me have no idea what authentic Japanese food is ... authentic is not california roll ! I lived in Japan and close to 90% of sushi restaurants in the US are not authentic. Unauthentic,bad service,overpriced – My boyfriend lives in the neighborhood, one night we had a sushi craving it was late to go to Japantown so we asked his roomate about nearby Tsunami and she warned us it was overpriced. Excellent – This is probably the best priced happy hour cocktails I ever tried in the city... Only $2 a drink when it is usually $6, added to that discounted sushi that is probably some of the best in the city... This place is extremly trendy and always alive with the best music and the hippest customers & sexiest girls Ive ever seen work. I cant think of another place where everything about it falls perfectly in place... This is a restaurant that works well in all its angels.. It is a new concept and it works
extremly friendly & informative – Reading the review before mine made me surprised a bit. It stated service was horrible yet friendly ! food is good but there are better thus it was horrible ...How could that be !! My experince like many times before was excellent. Overrated and Horrible Service – I was sorely disappointed with my experience here. The service was awful. Our waitress was friendly enough when she actually appeared at our table and the food didn't make up for much. Presentation is obviously a focus, but there are numerous better rolls and sashimi in this city. The sake menu was impressive, but the entire experience was horribly overpriced. Maybe it was just an off night, but i'm not racing to return anytime soon.
