not only did he refuse to cut my partners hair because he “doesn’t cut girls hair.” when she has a men’s style haircut already. his next excuse was that he doesn’t cut curly hair. which you’d think he would be more open so he can get more business. good to know he is comfortable discriminating against masculine women. she wanted a clipper cut, he told her she wants a scissor cut and he can’t do that. apparently he gets to decide what you wanted to get done as well. if you want to pick and choose clients based off their hair ... read more

If you’re under the age of 55 and not from Ames, do not come here. It’s a waste of your time. Walked in at 7:35 (5 min after opening) to get a medium high skin fade. He instantly asked if I was from here and then commented, “I think I know what cut you want, but I don’t know, so what would you like?” I replied and he said, “Yup, just what I thought. I see there are some negative and some positive reviews. To be honest, it was my first choice for haircuts when I first came USA. The quality of the cuts are awesome, and before I got my first cut, He explained everything, like if You require to have fade or fancy cuts, this is not the place etc. His communication might seem awkward to some, I get it, but I believe he does an amazing job for haircuts for that price. I think Troy is so clear about his policies and always gives me the best cuts.

I tried getting a haircut with Troy after 2-3+ years of going elsewhere because he told me the first time I went to his barber shop that he doesn’t do “specialty cuts” like fades. I went again to try and get a simple cut and he turned me down. I understand wanting to establish regulars, but his approach leaves me wondering if there’s something else to it.
