私は2人の娘を、こちらの「トーランス・メモリアル・メディカル・センター」で出産しました。長女の時はまだ英語がそこそこで、病院で使う特殊な英語はさっぱり分からず、文字通り「驚きの連続」の出産となりました。生まれてから2日間、娘はずっと泣き続けていました。 お見舞いに来た友達から『赤ちゃん、えらい泣いたままだけど大丈夫？』と言われても、当時の私は「何でかな？」と思うばかり。心配した小児科の先生が来て『おっぱいは良く出ていますか？』と聞かれたので、『わからないです。看護師さんがミルクをあげてくれるのでは？』と答えると、先生は激怒！『毎朝、温かいタオルでおっぱいを温めて、自分で飲ませなきゃダメだよ！』と言われました。 アメリカでは日本の病院のように手取り足取り教えてくれないことを、その時初めて知ったのです。生まれて早々、私の無知のせいで2日間も空腹で泣かせ続けてしまって、娘には『かわいそうなことをした、ごめんなさい』という思いでいっぱいなのと、恥ずかしくて この病院にはアメリカならではのダイナミックで素敵な思い出もたくさんあります。毎朝、温かいおしぼりを持ってきてくれて顔や体を拭いてくれた時は『さすがアメリカ、なんて親切なんだろう』と感動しましたもので... read more

I was told by another cardiologist and surgeon that i needed hart surgery, but i wanted a second opinion so i went to Dr. Wyman who is affiliated with this hospital and did an angioplasty on the seconed floor in Cardiology. EVERYONE there treated me as well as you could be treated, the proceedure was compleated by some of the most professional and polite people you could want taking care of you, and the final diagnosis was NO heart surgery and to go back to my normal life.
