I will never go back! – We had reservations at 6:30 and were left standing for at least 10 minutes while they figured out where to put us. Despite the fact that there were several vacant tables in the front, we were told we would have to sit in the back. When we asked why we were told that those vacant tables were being saved for 7:30 reservations. Best Seafood – I have been slipping into Tony's for that damn shrimp Larry since I was... well, much younger. Between the fried shrimp and the wine, I hold him personally responsible for the extra lbs I have to haul around!
Citysearch Editorial Review – The River Oaks establishment that has been serving up Cajun-style seafood since 1982 also provides off-site catering for events as simple as office lunches to elaborate rehearsal dinners for hundreds.
Not a good experience! – Went there for a birthday celebration on this past Sunday. We had a party of 10 people. We have dined there in the past and always had a great experience. This experience was minus 10 dining experience. It did not appear they were short on staff, but waiter was not attentive. Do not waste your time. – While visiting some friends in Houston a couple weeks ago we made the mistake of dining at Tony Mandola?s. While being underdressed compared to most of the patrons there, I felt we were way overdressed for the atmosphere within the restaurant. It?s not that nice and loud, the food was mediocre for the price and the waiter was very arrogant. I think he forgot the difference between the customer and the server. We will never come back and will discourage anyone to go there.
Catering is fabulous – We had a holiday party for 40 guests and the catering was fabulous. They delivered everything from patio heaters to elaborate floral table decorations. They set everything up, served and tore down without the guests even noticing them. The food was delicious and it was very reasonable. Our guests had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere the caterers exhibited.
very dissappointing – I visited Tony Mandola's last night and both the food and service was extremely dissappointing. I will never go back. First, the hostess was rude upon entry. Second, our waiter was in absentia. Part of this was related to the fact that our waiter was waiting tables both inside and outside. This has to be the dumbest waistaff management decision ever. Great Seafood & Italian Cuisine!! – Great food, excellent atmosphere. The service was pretty good, despite being very busy. I'd recommend making a reservation at weekends, to avoid disappointment. I'll certainly be using this restaurant on my next visit to Houston.
Great Food, Sketchy Service – My boyfriend and I dined there last night, and though the food was excellent, the service both at the bar and in the dining room was amateur. It was more than 5 minutes before the bartender acknowledged us, and another 5 minutes before he returned to take our drink orders. The bar was not overly busy, and in fact, 2 gentlemen standing next to us also commented to one another that the service was really slow.
