Tom Reid, former Minnesota North Star legend and longtime hockey announcer, saw an opportunity to cater to the area's hockey fans and grabbed it. Located in the shadow of St. Paul's RiverCentre, home to the Minnesota Wild, Tom's place rekindles fond memories of the long-gone Minnesota North Stars. Instead of opening an upscale joint overflowing with attitude and serving umbrella drinks, Reid decided to create a friendly tavern where the local working stiffs could grab a drink before or after the game. Hockey memorabilia is p... read more

Desperation City – The food here is NOT GOOD AT ALL. I go here every now and then for their deals on drinks (2-4-1's) is always a bargin but jeeze could they get any worse food. I swear every time I have ordered food here it comes closer and closer to pig slop. For the prices they charge you would think the food could be better quality. The food is only good IF you have to sober up--because it makes you baarf! As far as the staff goes there a only a few guys (who arn't that bad looking) but some of the servers and females co... read more
HOCKEY HEAVEN – This place is awsome. I brought my kids in durring the afternoon after an open skate at the X. Who do we see? Jacques Lamaire, Mario Tremblay, and Mike Ramsey all sitting at a table with Tom Reid himself. They were really nice and my kids got autographs from all of them. Tom really knows how to make people feel welcome. They have the coolest hockey stuff on the walls. The server was great and so was the food. I will be going there whenever I am in Saint Paul.
good place to have some drinks – i love one of their cooks..i been there once and you could hang in there and have some drinks and be relaxing and social with anybody around.
BEST LUNCH IN SAINT PAUL – I was not a fan of this place years ago. Food was crappy and everything seemed overpriced. A friend dragged me in for lunch two weeks ago and dang!... this place has gotten soo much better. You can tell that something has changed because when I went in, about 1:00 in the afternoon, it was busy. The service was good, and so was the soup and salad bar. the soups were actually awsome. I haven't been in at night, but I hear that they are open until 2:00am every day and have really good specials.
Avoid Every Night – Overprice, bad service and bad food. Don't waste your time going when there is a bar/restaurant on every corner by the Excel. Bartenders are crabby and the servers are ditsy and slow. There is nothing special about the food there, most of the time it's been sitting there - precooked for hours so they can get it out fast. For the price go somewhere respectable... I suggest McGovern's or the Liffy.
Wouldn't do it if I were you – Tom Reid's hockey memorbillia is the only reason anyone should even step foot in this place. We were less than satisified with our service by an unhappy bartender, who's name i believe was Sam. Some of the other male workers there were rude with scowls on their face and looked like they wished they were some where else. The food was below average at best. My buffalo chicken sandwhich tasted like it was not thoroughly thawed out. The over priced beer and drink selection before a hockey game is n... read more
Really kind of a dive – Tried it for the very first/only time for a recent Wild game... I'm struggling to come up with any positives. The old North Star memorabilia on the walls is cool--but if you're interested in eating/drinking--save yourself the disappointment of being served what is really surprisingly bad food only to take a gut shot when you get the check from the surly bartender and see what you've been paying for the drinks $$$$ to wash down your crappy $10 hamburger. They obviously only stay in business because of ... read more
Trip down memory lane of Minnesota Hockey Heritage – My son attended a baseball clinic in the area of the restaurant and we stopped by on a Saturday afternoon. The service was excellent and the food was your typical sports bar menu. The many hockey items plastered all over the place take you back to Minnesotas rich heritage of hockey, alot of memorable photos of stars of the past. We also had the pleasure to meet Tom Reid himself as he was sitting in a booth close to us and made the stop all that worth while. I would highly ... read more
Cheers of St. Paul – I have been going to Reid's now for about 2 years, and wether or not it is hockey season does not matter. This establishment is a great place year round. Not only do they have wonderful specials on drinks and food, but the atmosphere and staff are great and friendly. It is a place "Where everybody knows your name". The ghosts of Hockey past seem to come out of every nook and cranny, and there is an electric energy that envelops the restaurant every fall and winter on game nights. The food is not to bad, ... read more
