This deli is worth the 30-mile drive from my house just for a meal. The quality and quantity of food in every meal is unmatched in the San Diego area. They are often very busy at usual meal times, and this can slow down the service. It is to be expected at a very popular restaurant. We always bring home sausage and pretzel bread and pastries. Try the sausages, pork chops, and ham, I've never had a bad meal here! Reading other reviews, it looks best to avoid the hamburger. Enjoy!
Drove up from San Diego yesterday because we have heard great things about this place, we both had the Big John Cheeseburger with fries and soda for $6.98, what a great deal!!! And it was outstanding!!! The meat market has everything imaginable!!
For me as an german the Restaurant was ok. I had the lamb chops with Sauerkraut and the lamb chops could be better. But the Shop is absolutly amazing. Its like home. And the service is really friendly.
This is by far my favorite restaurant in Carlsbad. The food is delicious, always fresh, the cakes, and strudels are fantastic. The prime rib is amazing. I wish there was a restaurant like this where we live in AZ.🖒

So tasty! A great deal, too! We just returned from vacation in Germany and were craving schnitzel and sausage...boy -- we didn't really have to GO to Germany! We could have just gone to Tip Top Meats and saved some serious cash!! Glad we know where to get our authentic fix for European food cravings!! And the beer! Oh, the beer!! �
