The counselors and staff know what they are doing here! They have experience, knowledge and comparison. This is crucial for someone getting sober for the first (or second or third...) time. As a former patient, I learned so much about the disease of addiction. I had so many questions and they helped me find answers to them all. They really helped me build a solid foundation for my recovery!
Thelma McMillen offers people a chance to save their lives. I don’t think people are ever really stoked to check themselves into a center for alcohol or chemical dependency. In general, addicts don’t like face up to the fact that they are chemically dependent; it’s much easier to deny everything and continue down that inexorable road toward madness or death. This is not a program with any original content, save your money and just go to AA. The counselors are so uncaring and judgmental, to the point of being abusive by making threatening phone calls to patients. My close friend is struggling with this place now and it pains me to see her have to go there when every other step she is taking is positive.
