Avoid the psychiatrist Henry Philofsky. He will make decisions about your life before you even get to explain your whole story. I came to get help with my TBI and panic attacks, but he assumed the worst about my "addictions" without going through my entire history. I went through detox (with zero withdrawals because I didnt need it) and left realizing it was a waste of $7,100 including insurance. I am back to square one trying to solve the panic attacks.

Stay away from this place. I booked an appointment for a family member and they canceled 15 minutes before the appointment claiming they had some kind of emergency. I had begun to wonder if things could ever really change. Finding The Wise Center changed everything. Working with Melissa DeLong and the broader team — including the clinical leadership ... read more

I came here specifically for DBT therapy and it’s been incredibly helpful. They also offer psychological assessments, which made the whole process feel really thorough and I was able to get tested for ADHD + an ASD screener test.

The Wise Center for DBT is an incredible asset to Birmingham. It’s clear they’ve built a practice with a high level of expertise, structure, and consistency in the work they do. Access to DBT in a setting like this is incredibly valuable, and it raises the standard of mental health support available in the community. That same care carries through to the environment they’ve created. There’s a warmth and steadiness you can feel, along with a real respect for the importance of the work. It feels like a soft place to land—a pla... read more
