While in Old Salem, we stopped at The Tavern for lunch. All of the staff was helpful and knowledgeable. We tried the Getman pretzel with Lusty Monk mustard as an appetizer for the four of us, it was excellent. My wife had the Tavern Chicken Pie and I had the Overnight Pot Roast. I enjoyed the pot roast very much. It was well seasoned with a balanced rich gravy over delicious mashed potatoes and fresh crisp haricourt vertes. Great Service, good prices and the Fried Green Tomato, Parmesan and Smoke Gouda Pimento Cheese, Tomato Remoulade, Bacon on Toasted Sourdough Bread is to die for.
Even though they advertised they had gluten free options, the chicken dish was gluten free only because they left off the sauce, omitted the risotto, and didn't provide the bread as a side. Therefore I was left with chicken and two very small servings of vegetables. I left hungry.
Service was excellent and the food out of this world! Definitely will eat there again when visiting Winston Salem!
The server's name was Mary and she was great! Food was just okay for me. I was alone and would have liked to dine around other people, but they sat me upstairs in a room all by myself! I could have eaten totally alone at home! I looked out the window and there were tons of tables open outside. I even requested outside, but the very unfriendly hostess said that I could not request outside seating and that I would have to take what was available. I cannot say enough how much my family and I enjoyed Mother's Day brunch here. The service was impeccable. Our server took her time making recommendations, sharing specials, and informing us they were farm-to-table. All breads are made in- house, the lemonade was freshly squeezed, and the chicken pot pie was double crusted. The price point was much more reasonable than I expected. This will be a tradition for our family.
