On a recent quick visit to Chicago, I managed to score a table at The Purple Pig for lunch on a Saturday. The space is deceptively smaller than I expected - in a good way. Our seating was near the kitchen, which was a bit too loud and energetic. The service was very good, though the staff were a bit too rushed to take away plates. Pigs ears with fried kale, perfectly grilled octopus with bright citrus, roasted bone marrow, delicious charcuterie and amazing wine selection. Stalk a seat at the bar and be a part of all the action! Divine food.
I sat at the bar and even though it was very busy the bar tender was very attentive and helpful. The waiters picking up drink orders were also very fun and helpful. The food was excellent!��
Absolutely love this place! Everything on the menu that I have tried is delicious. The pistachio creme brûlée was to die for. Cocktails could use some improvement....
One of the best culinary experiences I've ever had! The milk braised pork shoulder was splendid! The bone marrow was other worldy. The ricotta gnocchi was superb. The chicken kebabs were incredible. This will be a place i visit every single time I'm in Chicago. The service was also second to none.
My motto is: Give me a great experience, and I will gladly pay the price and more. Even though this is not consider upscale, my visit there with the lady who accompany me had just that type of experience. My wife and I have been wanting to come here forever. We finally made it here yesterday. We had HUGE expectations going in and it lived up and even exceeded what we hoped for. Amazing atmosphere, wonderful food and wine list and warm friendly service. Can't wait to go back!!
Fun atmosphere with innovative menu and fantastic wine selection. The staff was super helpful and friendly and the service was appropriately attentive. Enjoyed the communal dining, especially being a visitor to the town, everyone had great input on the various dishes being brought out. Highly recommend this place for foodies who want a relaxed atmosphere with an approachable staff who actually seem to enjoy what they do!
