The Maple Leaf Pub

4.5

About this business

Looking for somewhere different to hang with your buds? Try The Maple Leaf Pub in Midtown. This place is overflowing with north-of-the-border character. Switch up your steady diet of domestic and Mexican beers to a frosty Canadian Molson and catch a hockey game with some friendly folks. If one of your friends gets too rowdy, you can put them in the penalty box. There is no better watering hole in the city during the Stanley Cup. The crowd, much like what can be found in Canada, is diverse and super pleasant.

this place is worthless! stay away! – I've actually been here many times because it is the only way for me to follow my favorite hockey team. Nevertheless, this place has not shown any signs of improvement over that time. The jukebox has a bunch of old CDs in it. The music is not loud enough. Most of the other customers are old men. The gender ratio is usually about 9 males for every female (and that one female is usually unattractive anyway). The drinks are overpriced. It is at a noisy intersection. If all that weren't bad ... read more

Business response:

Wow Lance, that was quite a review. No signs of improvement you say, huh. That bunch of old CDs are some of the GOOD classics people like to listen to. There are in fact quite a few new CDs in the jukebox, but I guess that if one is not informed or up to date on some of the new music out there, they might miss that tidbit. We like to keep the music at a level where you can hold a conversation with the person next to you; we are not a club. While it is true that the men outnumber the women, I think you will find this at most ... read more

One of the better bars in the area! – I've been here a handful of times, and have had nothing but a good time every time. I only require a friendly staff, plenty of beers to choose from, decent prices and no pretention. So far, so good!

Business response:

I know what you're saying about the windows. I personally wanted to cover them up some, but so many people told me they absolutely loved the view and the openness they provided that I decided against it. What can I do. Thanks for your kind words. See you soon.

everybody knows your name – I love the maple leaf my husband and I were there over the weekend to watch NHL playoffs, and we popped in last night with a group of friends. I love the friendly atmosphere it is definitely not like the other bars in midtown. Scott and the other staff rock they are always so friendly and really go out of their way to make you feel welcome. On busy nights you have to understand that you are not the only patron at the bar, and you may have to wait a few minutes for a drink, but that's the case at a... read more

Business response:

Thank you very much for your kind words. We do strive to offer a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere where getting a drink is not a problem. Once again, thank you, and see you soon.

The service is so MUCH better now! Great job! – I've been to the Maple Leaf Pub several times because I'm a huge college hockey and NHL fan. On weekday nights when the bar isn't as packed, service is usually average. That is, if you are ready for a fresh drink/refill, you can either order one from the bar with minimal wait or catch the attention of a wandering staff and place your order. However, on any given weekend, all bets are off. First, the bar gets extremely packed. So, attempting to get the attention of someone behin... read more

Business response:

I am sorry to hear that you have had problems getting a drink on occasion. We have recently lost a couple of key staff members and are currently working to properly staff up with the right people. Customer service has always been a priority for us and will continue to be into the future. Thank you for your feedback. Please check back in with us, because as I said, the problem will be remedied in the very near future.

i would not recommend to anyone I know – me and a few friends go out two to three times a month to try out different spots and thought that The Maple Leaf Pub looked like a good place to go. (well we were wrong) the atmospher of this place seemed really nice, there are board games to play and the staff seemed friendly enough. all was good untill we got ready to pay the tab and leave......... my friends boyfriend went to the bar to close us out and me and my friend went outside. when he came out he was pis*ed, the tab was $30... read more

Business response:

Sorry for the mistake. I hope that the manager took care of the tab to your satisfaction. The bartender you are speaking of is in fact new. As we do not have a POS system, it is up to each individual bartender to correctly ring up drinks. It is absolutely her fault for not asking the manager on duty how to ring up the drink correctly. I am curious as to why the tab was not questioned while you were at the pub in order to resolve the issue on the spot. Nonetheless, it is our fault. We have recently lost a couple of key employ... read more

DO not Go here. – BAD! BAD! BAD!.I, my boyfriend and a friend of ours went to the maple leaf on May 10. We just wanted to have a few drinks and relax. The place looked nice and we did like the atmosphere. My boyfriend ordered a beer which is the only drink you should order. I ordered a "S*x on the Beach" which the bartender must not have known how to make. She gave me a shot of a drink. You can google this drink (which I did before I wrote this) and see how the drink should be made. My friend got a long island ice tea and sh... read more

Response to Htowncoog – I have not yet visited but I heard about this through another hockey fan and then read the review from Htowncoog. I now rate this place as a 5, I was planning on catching the Fri/Sat night playoff games but have been motivated to go tonight. You can watch the rockets at any bar or restaurant, people who have passion for the game of hockey need a place to enjoy a game, and I found it. I gained some serious respect from the response given. Look forward to the experience tonight.

Business response:

In talking to you, it seems as if your review prior to ever setting foot in the Pub, will stand. Thank you very much and see you soon.

Not a true sports bar - Other "onetime" reviewers probably employees or associated with owner. – I was there to watch the hometown Rockets play the Jazz in the playoffs and to my surprise when I got there, only one tv was tuned into the Rockets game and the rest were showing Dallas Hockey. Ok, I get it, this is a "canadian" bar so of course because it's a "canadians" bar, if they show anything else besides hockey it wouldn't be a "canadian" bar right? Those "canadians" must all be stereotypical one cell-brain creatures who c... read more

Business response:

1. We are a neighborhood pub that shows sports, not a ?sports bar?. 2. We are the only bar in town that caters to hockey fans. We proudly show NHL b/c we are committed to hockey & its fans. You can go into ANY bar to watch basketball. Would you go to a British pub & ask for soccer to be switched to Rocket Ball? 3. I?m sure the Dallas fans found their PLAYOFF game to be just as important as you found the Rockets game to be. 4. Are you seriously throwing insults at the intelligence of Canadians? 5. The TV placement & picture s... read more

Cool sports bar, especially for hockey – Cool sports bar. We went there last night to watch hockey. They have several flat-panel TVs mounted on the walls, several choices of draft beer as well as lots of bottled beer and mixed drinks. There are dart boards and a hockey game machine and some coin operated touch screens to play between events. I'll be back to the Maple Leaf Pub.

Business response:

Thank you very much for your kind words. Although we don't serve food, there are many places close by that happily deliver to us. I know it's not quite the same, but it usually works out pretty well. See you soon.
