Usually the food is excellent. Yesterday...not so much. I was disappointed.

$9.50 each for hot chocolate and peppermint shnapps. $23 for 2 hot chocolates and small extremely salty fries (about 18 fries) this must be a professional alcoholics bar cause I'll never be back to spend that on drinks again.
The only place around for amazing French onion soup! I love the staff, the beer and basically everything about The Cup!! I would give more stars if they offered them :)

I had a business lunch here with a friend. The Reuben sandwich and sweet potato fries were superb. I find the latter, when I order them elsewhere, to either be good or poor with not much in between. The sweet potato fries at The Liberal Cup... superb! When it comes to beers I am a big fan of English style bitters. The cask conditioned Basement Bitter is a beer I would drink daily if I lived in Hallowell, but I would be torn choosing between it and the We All (S)cream ale, another style I really enjoy and difficult to find. To start off, I have had nothing but great past experiences with this place. It is one of my favorite places to go for fresh, unique, locally sourced food at a good price. The service has always been amazing and on point. So it is unfortunate that my review is reflecting my last dinner there. I ordered the beer cheese soup that was absolutely awesome, but the server forgot it and so it came to the table somewhat cold and at the same time as the meal.
