Rude staff/volunteers working the Festival of Lights event, first and last time I will visit this place.
Always enjoyable. Enjoy the people, and hot cocoa.
This beautiful park like setting is beautiful in any season! Whether you are looking for peace and serenity walking the paths, comfort in the chapel or contemplating life's challenges in the observatory, you'll find it all here. It was actually my first time to see the lights. I was not disappointed! This is a must visit place in Portland for all visitors.
My husband and I visited this place in 2005. Beautiful place, we remembered this as our "Somewhere only we know" place.
I love being at The Grotto, I live in Montana and come to Portland to be with family during the holidays. This is my second year attending midnight mass at The Grotto; I'm making it a yearly event. When people ask me where to go when they visit Portland, I tell them to come here. Merry Christmas and God bless everyone 🙏🏾✝️❤️
We went on Friday night. Found a parking spot up the hill a little ways. It was an amazing experience. To see the beautiful lights appreciate the EFFORT was inspiring. Got to go in and sit and listen to one of the choirs. Beautiful!!! Lots of people but didn't hear or experience any rudeness. It took us about an hour to meander through as we would stop and look at the displays. So glad I finally made it. I DID want my picture taken with the camel, but there was a line. Next year!!
This was the first year my family and I attended and we had a delightful time. The lit up Grotto with the nativity was my favorite. So festive and we were glad that we chose to go on Christmas Eve.
Even though parking was a little crazy, the staff running the events were all very friendly, the lights were beautiful, and the music enchanting. Totally worth waiting in line for!
Not the best year. I don't know if it was the day i went (Dec 23rd) or just the population growth of the city but it was crowded and it seemed like the lights took a back seat to some comericalism. Love the Grotto year round, I will stick to visiting in the fresh spring and beautiful fall.
