I find the Grotto to be a place of peace and beauty. We went to hear John Nielsen play incredible music on the piano and then ate dumplings under a tent while watching the kids. We saw a camel and strange cow and sheep in the hay all getting along. Kinda like Christ's birth huh? So I guess the parking and walking etc wasn't what the visit was about. One can complain about anything they do OR they can find the magic of the night
The Grotto is a beautiful, contemplative jewel for Portland. The holidays bring crowds and, unfortunately, heavy traffic and limited parking. But the light displays were simply inspiring and I felt a sense of spiritual charge strolling through the property. One minor disappointment was the chapel choir concerts were so full we tried to stand in the back only to be told we would not be allowed to. But it was otherwise a nice thing to do as a family during the holidays. Heartily recommended.
Love it,been at the Grotto many times, one of my favorite places but this was my first visit to the Festival of Lights, amazing, so much work.very well organized, beautiful.,nice music.A pleasure to be here. This is Christmas.
Es algo maravilloso que se disfruta con la familia y una sensación de tranquilidad y paz
The festival of lights is beautiful, spirit filled, and Christ centered. I love it! The Nativity is my favorite and it is situated so that all may view, pray, light candles and enjoy. The stroll among the lighted trees is delightful. Somehow we missed the puppet show. My grandchildren were hoping for a more hands on experience with the farm animals, but the camel was intriguing. The parking was well organized, but very dark...almost scary. I am happy to pay the entrance fees knowing they support a worthy cause. May God bless... read more
Astounding light display and the true message of Christmas: The Christ child came down to us so we could be with Him forever!!!
It was alright, the lights were pretty. I do not think it was worth $11.00 a person It was nice seeing them with friends and family
I had never been here before. recently moved to Salem from WV. I saw the advertisement for the event in Portland and asked some friends to come. I was impressed with the lights and music. I'd like to come back in the spring to see the flowers and just set and meditate a while. Beautiful grounds.
