The Great Lost Bear has become a Portland institution since opening in 1979. The "Bear" is located about two miles from Portland's touristy Old Port but well worth the journey across town to the Mysterious Woodford's Area. The Great Lost Bear features an enormous eclectic menu with something for everyone: from hearty, spicy junk food to a large vegetarian selection, from steaks, salads and All American Burgers to award winning, wicked gooey desserts... all served in an entertaining atmosphere.

Normally I would as I have been going there since the late 70ies, even worked at the Bear back then. But our waiter was awful. No personality and seemed put out. I ordered one of my usual's, the burger with blue cheese. And that's what I got...a patty with blue cheese on a bun and fries. The burger had nothing else...no lettuce, no tomato, no pickle and didn't even get asked if I wanted lettuce and tomato. I expect this from a concession stand at a ball game but a restaurant!!! John Connolly mentions this bar frequently in his Charlie Parker series, I had no idea it was real! Good food, great interior, friendly waitstaff, decent parking, excellent atmosphere, good prices. Next time I am in Portland, I am going to hang out!
Fabulous food and classic atmosphere!
Went there for lunch for the first time, outside of being seated by a group of very loud guests, the food was outstanding, large portions and reasonably priced. Even though they were busy the food came out quickly. We are looking forward to returning. I can recommend the taco salad with chili and the Steak sub. I went to the The Great Lost Bear tonight! My wife and I shared the chicken nachos (I really enjoyed the salsa). I had the bbq chicken sandwich which was very good and my wife had a cheesesteak that she really liked. To finish off our dinner we shared a mason jar cake which was delicious! Overall great experience at GLB. The food, atmosphere, and team members were all amazing!
An oldie and a goodie. Can't go wrong with the greek salad and nachos, like I had today, and the wings are some of the best in town. great beverage selection too.
you must go to understand. the atmosphere is awesome. and the food and drink menu are unmatched!!!
