The Galley place is proud to be the oldest restaurant and bar in Santa Monica. Its loyal clientele ensures that it should hold on to that title for quite some time. The dark, New England seafaring motif may make you think you've landed on Cape Cod. Favorite dishes are the famous steamed clams in a bucket, seafood pasta, salads and the jumbo porterhouse steak served on a a plank. A bottle of wine here is reasonable and there is a full bar as well.

surf & turf! – We were staying in downtown L.A., and picked a few restaurants in Santa Monica from the internet that we would drive by & determine our dinner destination by the looks of the place. We saw a few that looked o.k. around the pier, but when we saw the Galley, we parked and went inside. Note the meters: we arrived @ 8:30 on a Sunday night - had NO idea that meters would be checked until 10pm! $35 ticket
Great Burgers, Main Street without Pretension – The burgers at the galley are succulent and tasty. It is not pretensious, unlike many other Main street haunts. The waitresses are very friendly. Stick to the meat, the fish is not as satisfying.
Sea vessel-themed eatery for traditional American surf and turf. – In Short The decor of the self-proclaimed oldest restaurant in Santa Monica stays true to its name; the dark and warm restaurant, loaded with wood accents, definitely resembles an old boat. Outside, there's a patio with a fountain, and decorated with fishing net and shells. The menu sticks to surf and turf, with hulking cuts of steak, daily fresh-catch offerings, and house salad with a famed secret-recipe dressing.
Great atmosphere - great food – This is one of my favorite Los Angeles restaurants. Especially if you want to avoid the LA scene. This place is down to earth, cool, and comfortable. The service is always great. The food is always very good too. Nothing fancy - just good steak for the most part. And it's really cook inside -- lots of little Christmas lights everywhere -- it has the feel of an east coast restaurant -- a nice change for this city. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nice night out to dinner
disappointed – i was looking for a non trendy neighbourhood place and hoping to find it at the galley. the bartender was great, but the food below average. i ordered the steak as was recommended by the past few reviews. the steak was chewy and charred. the burger was okay as it was 1/2 price since we went on sunday and ate at the bar. wouldn't really go there again.
Great Food..Great Service.Cozy Atmosphe – We were so happy to find this place right in our own backyard. We had such bad experiences with the Buggy Whip in Westchester and were so pleased with everything about the Galley. The coulotte steak is delicious and they let you choose what you want for your side orders...potatoes or vegies that are delicious and very well prepared. The waitresses are always upbeat and friendly and never leave you waiting long for what you ordered...from the well-made drinks to the entrees. We go the... read more
Don't let the Disney decor fool you! – It may look like a Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland, but this place is a top notch steak house. Loved the peppercorn steak! And you couldn't ask for a cozier atmosphere. Good for dates or dinner with friends.
Land lubbers welcome – Somewhere between trendy restaurants and local dives along Main Street, the Galley rises to the surface. Sip martini's anonymously at the bar or slip out back to the heated patio to enjoy a quiet, casual dinner under the stars. The flavorful pepper steak cuts like butter and is enough for two, along with creamed spinach that leaves you craving it for days without feeling guilty. One of our favorite places for a really good steak in Santa Monica.
The Galley has a 4.3 star rating with 834 reviews.
The Galley is closed now. It will open tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
