The Galley place is proud to be the oldest restaurant and bar in Santa Monica. Its loyal clientele ensures that it should hold on to that title for quite some time. The dark, New England seafaring motif may make you think you've landed on Cape Cod. Favorite dishes are the famous steamed clams in a bucket, seafood pasta, salads and the jumbo porterhouse steak served on a a plank. A bottle of wine here is reasonable and there is a full bar as well.

Fun little place This is a fun little place on Main Street. The inside is very chotchky with lots of lights, but it is a good local spot. We had some good clam chowder and calamari. There are always some local characters sitting at the bar. You can also get little tiny plastic colored mermaids in your drink! I've been a couple times and we've had fun waitresses.
Great Steaks If you like a great big steak, this is your place. Come hungry because you get large portions. Quaint restaurants with lots of eye candy on the walls. Service was great and the food was delicious. Street metered parking.
All around excellent Captain Ron and his crew keep this place shipshape. The decor is quirky and inviting. The patio - at night - can't be beat. And the steak - man oh man is it great! Don't expect anything wild and crazy with the food - steak, salad, sides, seafood. Got to give them props for trying, but their more experimental dishes don't represent well. The wine list is good, although beware the super small drinks. Service is excellent. PROS: Food, atmosphere, service CONS: being rushed through dinner on a busy night
Our fave for casual special occasions..steak and lobster heaven... We love the Galley..we love that its decor is cheesy, that the menu is out of the 1960's, that the bar is a tad "close" and the steak and seafood a little overpriced..it keeps the outsiders away. Maybe at this rate no one will ever discover their Happy Hour, where they serve the amazing GIANT scampi in garlic butter..like mini-lobsters..for half price, along with the best hamburger in the hood and most of the rest of the bar menu...it's all half price and we ... read more
I often eat dinner at the Galley before going to the Edgemar Center for the Arts across the street. The food is great and the service is good. I've had the steak, burgers, chicken and salmon. All were tasty. By the way, happy hour prices are excellent.
This place rocks! It's "The Restaurant with a Heart" per the logo and it's true. Come for happy hour and enjoy over a dozen dishes 1/2 off.
Stay Away from the Galley Restaurant!! – I used to be a fan of the Galley and take all my friends there. It has a pretty good happy hour and drink special, steaks are pretty good too but beware, there are skeletons. I was a fan ... until one night when my laptop was stolen after being left unattended for less than 10 minutes and the staff was unwilling to file a complete police report. The manager at the time claimed that she did not have any ID on her and she kept yawning in the police man's face. To add insult to injury, C... read more
May look like an abandoned ship, but it's a yacht in flavor – I love The Galley located on Main Street in Santa Monica. It may look like an abandoned ship from the outside, but it is definitely a yacht when it comes to quality and taste of the food and drinks. The Galley opened in 1934, and remains Santa Monica?s oldest restaurant and bar. Owner, Captain Ron makes sure ?the drinks are stiff and the friendly service is first class.? The menu offers everything from seafood to steaks to soups, salads and everything in between. ... read more
Does not deserve 4.5 stars – If you read these reviews, you will notice that the dates of the "5 star" reviews were YEARS ago and clearly do not reflect this place now. We had a terrible time there with a bartender and I was so disgusted by the behavior I will not return. As a server myself, I was just in disbelief that anyone could be so rude and still keep their job. Shame on you Captain, you obviously have become quite lazy with your employees. If I behaved that way at my job, I would have been fired on the spot. And righ... read more
