The Galley place is proud to be the oldest restaurant and bar in Santa Monica. Its loyal clientele ensures that it should hold on to that title for quite some time. The dark, New England seafaring motif may make you think you've landed on Cape Cod. Favorite dishes are the famous steamed clams in a bucket, seafood pasta, salads and the jumbo porterhouse steak served on a a plank. A bottle of wine here is reasonable and there is a full bar as well.

Great Food – This is a fun place to go with friends or family. Not a good date spot or romantic environment, but if you're just looking for a tasty meal and a chill atmosphere check this place out.
Leave the Wee'Uns at Home! – In response to the review from the person who griped about the service regarding their baby, three words, get a sitter! There are restaurants that are child friendly, believe it or not, there are ones that would prefer you left them at home. This also applies to resorts, hotels, spas, salons, etc. Not to ruffle feathers here, I have a young child, and the place she likes best is home! So on the rare occasion when my husband and I go out for an adult evening, we get a sitter. Sure, it is expensive... read more
ARGGH! Worst. Restaurant. Experience. Ever – I'm not kidding. Words can't describe how bad the sights, the smells, and the tastes were -- but I'll try. I have NEVER not finished at least half a steak and this piece of, ahem, filet mignon was inedible. Not even the peppercorn (I swear it was spiked A-1) sauce could hide the fact this was a bad bad piece of meat. I tried my girlfriend's halibut. Horrible. To top it off it's expensive. This is a tourist trap with capital T's. Avoid at all costs.
SHIPWRECK – How disappointing We should have jumped ship the moment we walked in The Galley, but we are always willing to give a place a try. The interior was dark and dingy; indeed, it is Santa Monicas Original Restaurant and Bar Since 1934. Nothing seems to have been changed since then and, unfortunately, nothing seems to have been cleaned since that time either. Some may call it cool-kitsch or nostalgic, but it was more jury-rig and shipwreck. We immediately asked for a table outside for some air and light The area we wer... read more
Like no other – It seems like a hole-in-the-wall, but don't be fooled. The Galley is a great restaurant. Take a large group af friends pf drinks on the back patio or belly up to the bar with a bunch of locals. Favorite dish: The Steak Spinach Salad w/ avacado.
Orgasmic Fun! – This place is the coolest find in the Los Angeles area! We are from NYC and LOVE going to the Galley when in Santa Monica! The food is wonderful, but even better - the staff and ambience are unique, fun and like a neighborhood party all the time!! Our favorite food there has to be the steaks, and linguini with clams! Really stiff drinks!!! When you go make SURE to ask to meet Capt Ron (the owner) - he is a real character!!
Take the bad with the good – Our 7:00 reservation was lost and we were left standing, crammed in the doorway holding a baby until 7:41. We asked for a table and high chair, when seated, the hostess informed us they do not have high chairs, she did not seem to care, so we had to run down the block to get the stroller in the rain (which isnt convenient at a table). We mentioned our disappointment to our waitress, but nothing was done or said. The place was nice, food was good, served promptly, and good atmosphere. I expected s... read more
great atmosphere, and food! – The Galley is one of my favorite places to eat in the Santa Monica/ Venice area. The atmosphere is awesome. Nice and comfortable and cozy. The wait staff is always friendly, and welcoming. I find that to be very rare in LA. The food is delicious!! Try the calamari......it comes with three different dipping sauces......the green is to die for!
Avast...Ye old scurvy landlubbers! – Simply put...The time honered treasure we lucky customers call (The Galley) is nothing less than "A FILET MINGON IN A WORLD OF QUARTER POUNDERS". There....I said it! Believe it.
