My wife and I had our first dinner out in almost a year at The Chop house and were blown away. The service was great, and all of the food was perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. We came to Grand Rapids to celebrate our anniversary and the meal was definitely worth the drive and cost.
I had a reservation for a retirement party booked for February 13 for 20 people in a private room since November. Spoke with restaurant yesterday all confirmed then 24 hours later get a call and my reservation has to get screwed up with the time or not at all. I had my party reserved way before the valentines diners had theirs in. This is poor business and the guy who called was nasty. Will never come back and will tell everyone I know how I was treated. Social media is great for that
Spending your 25th wedding anniversary and NYE in the middle of a lockdown is disappointing, but The Chop House went above and beyond to make it special. Rose petals, candles, mints, individually labeled and carefully packaged items, perfectly prepared filet, and a bottle of wine made our celebration delicious and memorable.
The food is subpar at best. The only bright spot of the whole dining experience was our server. The Chop House is typical of many of my fine dining experiences in Grand Rapids, overpriced, subpar food! Maybe the chef should travel more and actually get a clue on what other cities consider great food, because the food at the Chop House doesn't meet that standard. The manager was also terrible and apathetic, so I shouldn't have expected much from the food.
