Read part 1 (of our 2 part series) "Temperature Measurement is a Critical Need for Power Plants" here:
Did you know that foreign substances present a risk to thermocouples. Contaminants can damage thermocouples, causing reactions at high temperatures and that can damage a part. Various impurities can accelerate the impact of other issues, such as metal fatigue and oxidation, leading to an early demise for your thermocouples.
Variations in temperatures during certain processing applications, such as medical testing and industrial reactions, bring about significant changes in profits, quality, and safety. Several applications in industries like oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, power, pharmaceutical, etc. are affected by changes in temperature.
Within the pharmaceutical industry the quality level is of great concern as the products may influence the health of their customers. It is therefore essential to control the process and storage areas according to prescribed rigid regulations and FDA standards.
Medicine producers are sterilizing ampoules or other containers to hold medicine prior to filling them. This process is controlled to be within specific temperature and pressure. Temperature range can be up to 150° C and pressure op to 3,5 bar absolute. The temperature and pressure sensors controlling this process are calibrated on a regular basis.
One of the ways to optimize oil and gas production is to get better subsurface and surface pressure and temperature measurements to improve many aspects from artificial lift optimization to real-time reservoir and topside production monitoring.
Temperature and time play critical roles in the brewing process. In addition, commercial beer making involves the use of several pressure sensors to monitor different phases of the process. Automated processes provide greater consistency and control of brewing or any food processing and require electronic sensors.
