About this business

Tello - what a find! Lit with candles and chandeliers, this cozy place has such a wonderful old-world feel that you may think you've walked onto the set of a Martin Scorsese film. A helpful staff serves up hefty portions (light on price) of well prepared Italian fare. Pasta is cooked al dente every time and the seafood is plentiful and fresh

quite place – We spent a Saturday evening there. It wasn't crowded and the atmosphere was nice. The service was ok, inspite of telling the specials of the day, he just refered to the board on the wall - we can all read ourselves! We had the Tuna. Not only given the fact, that we are in a seafood restaurant, the taste was disappointing. It wasn't like eating fresh fish as we had expected.

Best Restaurant in City – This is our favorite restaurant in the city which we eat out at once a month. The food is excellent! We usually start off with a bottle of Chianti and the steamed mussels, which are amazing. We literally go through 2 loafs of bread dipping up the "liquid goodness" broth of the mussel dish. You must order this. I usually get the signature Chicken Tello dish and my girlfriend gets the Linguine di Mare. We are usually too stuffed to have dessert and just take a biscotti. The restaurant has a very warm,... read more

Spoils the sea is right! – If not for the friendly service this place should surely be sent to Davie Jones' locker. The "fresh" oysters were far from top quality. the fanny bays might have well been east river specials. The poor preparation of a simple snapper which was somehow dry when it was pan seared served with a pile of cold and bland mashed potatoes. Every restaurant has a bad day, but this customer will not go down with this ship!

Authentic Italian in the heart of Chelsea – This is the 2nd time I've eaten at Tello. I came across it a few months ago on my way to a bar to meet a friend. Because it's on a side street, you either have to fall over it or have someone tell you about it. As a person of of Italian decent who grew up eating home cooked Italian food, this place matches my grandma's cooking. On Tuesday night, I had the mussels in white wine sauce & garlic as an appetizer - big bowl full of succulent mussels steamed just right. The main course wa... read more

fresh fish – We had the pleasure of eating at Mare the other night. We started with the special fried sardines and seafood salad. The sardines came out perfectly crispy and not oily. The seafood salad was very good not over cooked and chilled properly with lemon and very little oil.I had the grilled salmon and it came out moist and cooked crisp on the outside. My friend had the halibut. It was tasty and well presented. The service was very attentive,I didn t have to ask for more water or bread.

cute spot, great service, great food – We started with the seafood salad which was fabulous. The red snapper was large and full of fresh tomatoes, garlic, white wine, olives. The skate fish was sauteed with a lemon and wine sauce the best I ever had.The only problem is that the portions are big and the entrees come with alot of potatoes and vegetables and that leaves no room for dessert.

Not Worthy of Chelsea restaurant space – I ate at this restaurant last night (6/22) and can say that it was the worst service I have had at a restaurant in Manhattan in a loooong time. And not only was the service bad, but they were totally unapologetic about it. We waited 40 minutes for appetizers, another 40 after that for our meals. I had ordered rare salmon, recieved it well done, and sent it back -- which is pretty normal, I think. My waiter came back and told me that the kitchen was too backed up for a new cut of salmo... read more
