We will NEVER rent from Surf or Sound Realty again. This was our 6th time visiting the Outerbanks but this was our first time renting from Surf or Sound and it will definitely be our last. The place we rented (Paradise Found #218) was frankly dingy and disgusting. Clearly nothing has been replaced since the house has been inhabited. The furniture has layer upon layer of sweat and dirt. Worst company and rental in my life. Blood on mattress. Complete filth. Booked for June 2022 for 1 week. Management was NOT helpful at all to fix this. They sent out another cleaning crew that was here until after 1030pm. Still not cleaned to our standards. What a complete nightmare. Do not rent from this company. They are garbage.
Having rented Whispering Surf for the past four years, each for two-week stays, I was shocked and disappointed at the increased rates for 2022. While I understand that weekly rental rates can, and should, have moderate annual increases, the rental rate increased 18.3% ($2190 to $2590). Even more disturbing was the increase in overall fees for the home. We rented Ocean Hi in Set, 2021. We had no power to most of house and when they sent someone out he couldn't do anything because "we need an electrician to do the work". Not only that but once the power was on lamps didn't work. We had to move lamps from room to room! Then the floor in the basement was soaked (no response what so ever) A hole in the ceiling was dripping water on the pool table (no response again). The pool was filthy! Buyer Beware (Caveat Emptor). Just returned from beach rental home from this company. It was the worst rental experience of my life. Home was filthy (black mold, human hair balls on floor, nasty furniture). Management offers excuse after excuse but is not helpful in resolving problems. If you get Jessica as your guest relations manager look out!!!. Don’t believe the pics they provide either as they are way out of date. You have been warned - rent at your own risk.
We rented Moon Splash in Salvo from 7/17/21-7/24/21. Beautiful house from the outside but that was it. Surf or Sound is a horrible management company. They are not taking care of the houses they represent and when you call to speak with someone about a problem you have to leave a message and they never call you back. They have the worst possible customer service and after using them for many, many years we will never use them for our vacation home rental ever again. We rented South Shore Dreams #701 in Rodanthe from July 3-July 10. From the moment we walked in, we knew it was going to be a "dump". We had to call to have it "re-cleaned" because there was a ton of dirt and dust under all the couches, beds, tables, and the kitchen cabinets had crumbs in all the creases! There were ants throughout the kitchen and eventually in our food. Pest control never showed up so we re-called Surf or Sound on day 3 and they finally sent someone out. We rented Playa-N-Waves in June, 2021. The location of the house and the size of the house were fabulous, but that is about all. Have rented from SOS in the past and was shocked at all the issues we ran into with this rental. Not sure it it is an owner issue or Surf or Sound issue. The house was filthy when we arrived with dog hair, food crumbs, grass, and pine needles on all of the floors and furniture. We rented #655 on the Sound for a week in March 2021. The house was great overall. We are avid travelers and had many VRBO like experiences. The big negative with this house/company is having to pay for linens and towels. The other negative is there are NO paper products, no TP, no paper towels, no nothing! They did give us one roll of paper towels and 1 roll of TP for a 6 bedroom 8 bath home. You also must bring condiments, soap (no soap anywhere either).
