A real nicely done operation with friendly staff. I give 3 stars (Good) because the train ride is extremely short, and in a straight line, then reversed. It is what it is, but if you expect a loop through the area, you're not going to get it. Read up on it first so you're not disappointed. Still, it's something you should definitely do if visiting. Personally, I found the museum across the road spectacular, and that made my visit well worthwhile!

Business response:

Hi Chris, Thanks for your recent review! We appreciate your candor and your suggestion to "read up on it." The Strasburg Rail Road exists today as America's oldest continuously operating railroad, dating back to 1832. We are a classic "short line" railroad in the full sense of the term, operating over a single 4-1/2 mile stretch of track the same today as it was back in the 1800s. We strive to present a well-preserved and professionally-operated small town steam railroad operation. We travel through the rolling farmland of b... read more

We had such a great time! Everyone was so friendly. They took our pictures, they have newspapers, and coloring books to purchase (very cheap, so worth it). I totally recommend this trip, even you are not a train enthusiast.

It was our second time to take a grandson to ride Thomas. The last time was in Sept. and most recently in June. We had a wonderful time, however, one thing was very different from our first visit. The actual ride on Thomas was MUCH shorter than when we rode two Septembers ago. Not sure why. It it was very disappointing for us all to only travel such a short distance on the rails. Can someone explain why the ride this time was so short compared to our Sept. visit?

Business response:

Hi Cheryl, Thanks for your feedback. We're sorry you found your most recent Day Out With Thomas visit to be disappointing compared to your first. What we can tell you is that Strasburg Rail Road's route and scheduled duration for the Thomas ride has not changed for many years. We consistently travel from our East Strasburg terminal to what is locally known as Ranck's crossing and then return. The ride time is scheduled to be 20 minutes in duration, consistent with Day Out With Thomas events across the nation, but, as with an... read more

I have seen this place advertised for years and did not realize how elaborate the place would be. Great fun. I happened to be there for the Ride with Thomas weekend. Thomas the Train, his buddy Percy and countless children and families were visiting as well. We rode number 90 and then visited the museum. Very cool. Would do it again.

Sunday June 25th was our second trip to Day out with Thomas! My grandson who is 3 absolutely loves it. Both trips have been wonderful. Will definitely be back again.

It was a busy day at the Rail Road due to "Day with Thomas", but we got tickets to the regular train. Got the open air car. Such a nice enjoyable ride. The kids had fun! Lots of stores at the station, places to sit down and have a picnic. Family fun for sure!

We went and spent the day with Thomas the train. They had a nice amount of things for the kids to do while you wait for you turn to ride.It was well organized and well kept. We enjoyed our two short rides in Thomas and Percy. My son enjoyed seeing some animals on the neighboring farms while on the trains.
