This Midtown hot spot with an infamous history has developed a reputation for good steaks and a business crowd. Dry-aged beef is served in hearty portions, as well as extra-thick veal and lamb chops. Seafood selections include red snapper and striped bass. Large dining rooms with dark antique furniture and staid paintings create the atmosphere. Black-tied waiters and efficient service set the pace. There is also an amazing wine list, with huge selections and amazingly affordable prices.

Great steaks, but be prepared to wait even if you have a reservation – I've had several great steaks at Sparks though I've been frustrated the last few times I've eaten there that even with a reservation we waited almost an hour at the extremely overcrowded bar. Probably best to eat here on a weeknight.
great service, great filet! – overall a great experience...the service was excellent and the food was delicious as expected. highlights of the evening were the oysters for the appetizer (very fresh), the mushroom caps for the vegetable side, and the filet for the entree...although many people raved about the sirloin i'd have to say i'd go with the filet for texture/taste...seems like even though we ordered the filet and sirloin both medium rare the sirloin came out a bit overdone leading me to enjoy the filet more...was surp... read more
Excellent steak – Gret Steak and fun atmosphere. Old world service type. Went for New Years eve and had alot of fun. Highly recommend.
If you want some good steak... – This is defeinitely the place for u. The steak was Good as Excellent! Definitely have to make a reservation and dress well. All business people come here at any given time. Great for groups, even just for two. Mushroom was definitely a pro and most esp. the deserts!!!
Decent steaks – I came here for a business lunch. The decor is classic. The staff is courteous and effective. The steaks are very large and done just right, but not so outstanding as to be memorable. In my opinion, BLT steakhouse is better. The crabmeat and smoked salmon appetizers were both very good. You may not want to get appetizers though, because the steaks are probably the biggest I've seen in a top quality steakhouse. The one complaint I had about the service was that they refilled my soda (and charged me for it) wit... read more
Classy, classic steakhouse... – From the service, to the wine, to the primi to the secondi...Every detail is taken care of perfectly at Sparks. Italian vibe and delicious pieces of steak. Try the oysters as well!
Best steak I ever had in my whole live!!! – If you want to have the perfect NY experience (I'm from europe) go there and order one of the depicius prepared steaks. The athmosphere is really like you imagine New York could have been in former times. The Godfather perhaps sits next to you ;-)
Bottom of the pile – There are numerous better steakhouses in this city so don't waste your money here. The sirloin is bland and not well marbled. Side dishes are about as boring and simple as can be. The creamed spinach is gritty and tastes like creamed oregano. Anyone who thinks this is the best wine list and value in Manhattan has been eating at the Outback Steakhouse for too long now. Single malts served neat are served in rocks glasses??! Another clueless restaurant catering to stuffed shirts and people who have no idea... read more
NY sirloin is tops – as a diehard Peter Luger fan, I didn't think anything could match PL's porterhouse. but the NY sirloin at Sparks comes pretty damn close - big, tender and expertly cooked. plus the interior at Sparks is much classier and far more sophisticated than Lugers, whose decor can be described as dorm-like at best. desserts are also wonderful, wine list is most extensive I've ever seen at any NYC restaurant, and they take credit cards. Next time I'm in the mood for a special occasion steak, I'm heading back here.
