This Midtown hot spot with an infamous history has developed a reputation for good steaks and a business crowd. Dry-aged beef is served in hearty portions, as well as extra-thick veal and lamb chops. Seafood selections include red snapper and striped bass. Large dining rooms with dark antique furniture and staid paintings create the atmosphere. Black-tied waiters and efficient service set the pace. There is also an amazing wine list, with huge selections and amazingly affordable prices.

GREAT PLACE JUST NOT ON THE WEEKENDS – i went my first time during the week , i was very impressed with the food, very very good steak.the second time i went with my wife on a Saturday night, big big mistake.Waited over a hour for a table, while the bridge and tunnel crowd that looked like extras from the sopranos keep bribing the Maitre d'. needless to say joey the construction owner from Bayonne was skipped over me. Maybe because of its connection to a organized crime slaying it attracts this type but i really regretted ev... read more
What a classic NYC steakhouse experience should be! – Our 22 year old nephew was in town and he wanted a try a "real New York City steakhouse". A quick call to the restuarant confirmed a 7 PM mid-week reservation. We arrived on time and were seated immediately despite a good sized crowd in both the restuarant and the bar. The Maitre D' was gracious and welcoming. The waiters were friendly, and helpful with suggestions on cuts of meat, temperatures (rare vs med rare) and wines (we selected an Italian Barolo Reserve which was ... read more
Beast Steak House in New York City – I have never been to such a large restaurant in my life. I expected to get a average steak, but to my surprise It was perfect. The meat was so tender and juicy that I couldn?t believe it was steak. The salad dressing was just perfect, with nice and fresh tomatoes. Wine list looked like a phone book. Great California Wines. Highly Recommended!!
Thoroughly enjoyable! – Had a small family birthday (my 60th) dinner last night. Arrived one hour late because of Lincoln Tunnel traffic, but were seated in less than 5 minutes. Waiters were extremely attentive, continuously replenishing rolls and water, and were immediately available for other refills, requests, etc. Steaks were delicious. My medium-well filet was butterflied and, although it only looked so-so, was the best tasting steak I have had in years! Sides and desserts were also excellent. A perfect dinner made even... read more
This weekend last, I visted Sparks with a party of six for a birthday celebration. We read the reviews on this website (95% raves) and decided to give it a try. We arrived 10 min late, but were seated promptly. The atttentive waitstaff kept the water glasses filled and the fresh rolls were plentiful. The wine list had many notable selections at reasonable prices. The decor was dingy but the old school feel prevailed. The evening deteriorated quickly starting with the appetizers. We asked for a 6 lb lobster and were informed ... read more
Prime Sirloin and Prime service!! – I went to Sparks with a party of 6 this past Saturday for my parent's anniversary. The place is big and dark, with beautiful paintings and legendary write ups on the walls. You can feel the history when you enter, and see where Paul himself was wacked in front of the restaurant back in 1985. The bar is long and ancient looking with a great selection of scotches and whiskies. We were seated promptly upon our entire party arriving. The service throughout the night was impeccable and our wait... read more
Great steakhouse experience (and nice about splitting, too)! – Saturday nights at Sparks are booming, dare I say "overwhelming". We arrived promptly for our 8:30 dinner reservation, checked in, found a tiny hole in the mob of 100 people at the bar, and were seated an hour later (even after tipping the host $20 upon arrival). We had a few drinks during our hour-long wait and weren't starving by the time that we sat down so we decided to split an appetizer, salad, and entree. Sparks gladfully split everything to the point that... read more
Awesome steaks – I dined for the first time at sparks for my group's holiday party. We had a 7:00 reservation for 4 and upon arrival there seemed to be a few hundred people gathered in the bar and surrounding the maitre d'. i was a bit skeptical after reading some of the reviews that commented on the wait. but to my surprise we were seated fairly quickly. the steaks, you choose between a sirloin or a filet, were awesome. they were big and tasty. Definitely one of the best steaks i've had in my life. the hashed brown potatoes... read more
Great steaks! Will Be back again soon - Recommended – This place has a lot of character, classic throw back mob decor/persona. I recently dined at sparks over the thanksgiving holiday, and thought overall it was excellent quality. Actually their's a pretty limited selection of steaks, that said we had the butterfly fillet, and it was magnificent! If you like wine this is the place for you, they must have had 1000 different bottles on their menu. Price is a bit steep at $42.95, and everything else is ala cart, bake potato is ... read more
