Floor-to-ceiling glass doors line the street side of Sonsie and remain open during the summer, making this a great spot for Newbury Street people-watching. The chic atmosphere suits the hipsters who visit in the evening, but afternoons are quiet and relaxed. The chef serves a tasty mix of American and Italian cuisines. The staff is particularly attentive, and they take pride in their mixed drinks behind the bar. Patrons can enjoy lunch or dinner or just drinks or coffee and dessert.

Very good food – I've been to Sonsie maybe three or four times with different people and the food here is always good. It's of course on the pricier end, but I'd say that almost every meal I've had here is worth every penny I paid for it, which for me is unusual. The service is usually pretty good and waitstaff are nice. With that said, the place does have a somewhat pretentious air about it, and many of the patrons seem rather snooty. The cafe area at the front of the restaurant feels somewhat cramped with tables being very... read more
Amazing Wine Bar – Went into Sonsie the other night and it was packed at the upstairs bar. Lots of good looking people everywhere I looked. I was greeted by a very friendly attractive hostess who suggested I try the wine bar downstairs if I wanted a more relaxed setting. I didn't even know that there was a bar down there!!! I went down to check it out, and met Mike the bartender. Amazing young guy with a great knowledge of wines. He had me tasting thru interesting wines, and was very nice to talk to. The setting is beautiful... read more
Great looking crowd – I went to eat dinner before going out on a Saturday night. The place was very crowded but they were very good looking. We had reservations but had to wait about 15-30 minutes for our table to actually be ready. When we did sit, the service was friendly but a little slow. One of our party's entrees didn't come. The manager promplty came over and was very apologetic. We got free dessert which was the best part of the meal. The food was okay. Nobody at the table was in love with their meal. Nice that you c... read more
Never Know What You'll Get – I've read some reviews here about bad service that I never believed until last week. I went there about two months ago with a buddy after work and our waitress looked like Katie Holmes but could talk about politics and knew everything about the wine list. We had so much fun we ended up staying late and eating dinner. This weekend we went in and sat in the same seats. Our waitress just gave us the cold shoulder and warm beers. I'll try it again but maybe its better on the weeknights.
Good food but slow service – My friend and I decided to have brunch at Sonsie on Saturday - The scantily clad hostess, teetering on her high heels, guided us to a table in the main dining room. I've eaten at Sonsie twice, and I have only good things to say about the food. However, a two-hour lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon in a dark dining area wasn't what I had in mind. Especially when the majority of the time is spent waiting for your long finished salad plates to be removed, while your drink sits empty with no offer o... read more
Thank you for Thanksgiving – I have never written a review before but I had to after last night. My girlfriend and I took her parents to Sonsie for Thanksgiving dinner because I had to work today and could not travel. It was the first time we have not had a homecooked meal and we were very uncomfortable going to a restaurant. This is why I am writting. When we walked into Sonsie we were greeted by an amazing hostess who joked with my sorta father-in-law and who seemed genuinely happy to be there working on a holiday. Our ser... read more
Great food, poor service – I went to Sonsie with two other people. Seating was no problem and the food came out quickly. My gnocchi was amazing. I was quite full, and wanted to get it wrapped up since I couldn't finish it. We asked our waitress to wrap it up, and she threw it out instead. After, we waited 45 minutes for our check, even saying "excuse me" to people for it and getting ignored. In conclusion, the food is great, but the service is awful.
The famous and trendy may eat here, but well-executed dishes go beyond fashionable fare. – Club kids, Euro jet-setters and the genuinely famous head to the foot of Newbury Street to drink and dine among the masses. In warm weather, people-watching is in its prime, as the front windows open wide. For serious lounging, head downstairs to the swanky, intensely romantic wine bar. Sonsie's kitchen turns out surprisingly solid New American fare; starters include lemon garlic skillet-steamed mussels and salad with sheep's milk Came... read more
Tons of fun – I was surprised at how good the food was since the place was jam packed and so trendy. It would have been impossible to get in without reservations. It's a nice ambience albeit a little dark. Had the swordfish - best ever! But it's really crowed and noisy so probably a better place to go with friends than on a date.
