Sonsie

4.1

About this business

Floor-to-ceiling glass doors line the street side of Sonsie and remain open during the summer, making this a great spot for Newbury Street people-watching. The chic atmosphere suits the hipsters who visit in the evening, but afternoons are quiet and relaxed. The chef serves a tasty mix of American and Italian cuisines. The staff is particularly attentive, and they take pride in their mixed drinks behind the bar. Patrons can enjoy lunch or dinner or just drinks or coffee and dessert.

Average, nothing more – The food is average, the drinks are less-than average, the cost is above average. I know it's a popular spot, but really, I don't get Sonsie. I wouldn't spend my money here again.

A little pricey, but you're paying for the atmosphere – I had a perfectly lovely time at Sonsie with two friends. Near Newbury St is never my first choice for dining, but Sonsie had been selected by a friend. I had the carrot soup. It was good, nothing phenomenal, but good. They both had pasta, one orecchiette, one gnocchi. I tasted them both. There was nothing bad about our meal, but for the most part, if I am spending the amount of money that I did here, I want food that wows me a little more. But, the atmosphere is nice. ... read more

Terrible place for late night! – I normally like Sonsie, but late on a Friday night this place is HORRIBLE. We made the mistake thinking that the cafe seating would be a nice place to people-watch, but we were wrong. The server was this twerpy kid and the hostesses were rude. The music playing was WAY TOO LOUD that we couldn't hear each other even though we were crammed together at a tiny little table. They tried to fit 4 of us at one! It was ridiculous. I was so upset, but happy to leave at the end of the night.

Best Service, Excellent Food, Amazing Scene – I frequent restaurants in the city often and I must say that Sonsie is my favorite place. The food is superb; the seasonal menu items always far exceed my expectations and the menu classics (Spring Rolls, Mee Krob) are amazing. The decor, the atmosphere, the people watching.... all exceptional. The bartenders are probably one of the main reasons Sonsie is what it is. After the first time I went in there they knew my name, treated me as an old friend, and provided me with a feelin... read more

sonsie – I am new to town and I have to say i had a wonderful time at Sonsie. Sonsie is a great place to have late night drinks and food. I went there with a gourp of friends and by the end of the night our group doubled. The service was good. i have to say though it was hard to get around, the bar area is too small, we had hover in order to find a cocktail table. If you do not get there at a decent hour, forget about going~ when we sat down though, it was great, i especially like the mussels dish that they have on the menu!... read more

Rude clientele but great menu in a nice space – I keep going to Sonsie hoping that their clientele will smarten-up and become more polite and less pretentious. Their food is fantastic, their waitstaff is quite good and their bartenders do a decent job at handling their almost always packed bar on the weekends. Unfortunately what keeps me from becoming a regular is the attitude of most of the men wearing Armani suits and women who are over-dressed and wearing too much makeup. The clientele here will bump into you, spill a dri... read more

Great lunch and dinner – My girlfriend and I went out to a special dinner on a Friday night and both were impressed with service and quality of the meal. A good balance is struck between sophisticated and non-pretentious, aspects of the plate seem to be there for a reason. I was most impressed with an on a whim visit for lunch in the cafe. Quick seating and a fantastic Cuban sandwich. A must try on Newbury.

Excellent! – The food is great, the service is great, the people watching is some of the best on Newbury, what more could you ask for! In my opinion, you really get the value for your money here. Every time I have eaten here, the meal has been fantastic from start to finish. The menu changes with the season, usually incorporating some key ingredient (such as tomatos, mushrooms, etc.), but it's not overly trendy. You can really see the attention to detail in preparing the dishes. Desserts are great too!! (Highly highly recomm... read more

Great place – We have been coming here for years. We love sitting and watching people go by. The food and service is great but it is the location that makes it.
