I think it was too early for me to join them because all I could see, they were trying to direct me to the destination. I could still walk and bathe on my own. I think it is normal for the patient to feel down or get angry but this shouldn’t give them the right to prescribe anxiety medication, they should provide the moment of comfort like talking or encouraging words, not cold energy, emotionless. The first conversations I had on the phone with Becky and Melanie gave me hope that these people had experience and compassion we needed to navigate life on the downward slope. The care our loved one received and the support and education we received as a family were top notch. Juliana was a rock, dispensing information but never overwhelming us. I can not say enough good thing about Smoky Mountain Hospice. They cared for my Mom the last 8 months of her life. She lived in my home the entire time, so on a weekly basis I was able to see the amazing care with which the nurse (and the doctor) approached my Mom. Mom had both advancing dementia and terminal cancer, so at times communication could be a challenge. Mom's team always went above and beyond to make sure Mom was comfortable in her last months. Smokey Mountain Hospice has an amazing team. They are locally owned and managed. Only 6 offices in East TN. As a result they only hire the best professionals. They cared for my mother in my home and every single team member was amazing. They provided a personal nurse, bather, clergy, doctor, and social worker. I initially called them over the weekend and needed to set up a place for my mother to come in less than 24 hours. We were moving her here from 300 miles away and they made it happen!
