So not worth it – Sushi - fish was tasteless and poorly cut. Rice was poorly seasoned, over-packed and warm. All the other fancy rolls looked like they were trying too hard. No flavor, no direction, no sense. My hot food arrived -- your standard shrimp tempura -- all batter and no shrimp. One of the worst Japanese lunches I've ever had. Avoid. Really. Especially since there are like 5 other, better sushi joints in a .25 mile radius.

Worst sushi ever – My boyfriend and I were walking from my apartment to his, decided what to do for dinner when we passed Shogun and he said "Oh, I used to get sushi from here all the time!" The sign outside the door says "Happy Hour: half price sushi" He was telling me how he and his roommate used to pick up sushi from there all the time, but they stopped and he couldn't remember how. As we were looking at the menu, deciding if we wanted to eat there/what to get, a couple walked out and told we HAD to eat there because it w... read more

I am 50/50 on Shogun – I enjoy going here to hang out at 11pm and get some alright sushi with my friends, the traditional tables are a lot of fun. It's an overall cool place, but waiting over an hour for 2 rolls, not super worth it. So if you have some free time and don't mind a wait...go here.

Its OK!!!!!! – I moved from LA to Salt Lake City about a year ago and am a great fan of sushi, thats why coming to Shogun Restaurant has been a good experience to me. The prices are affordable, the atmosphere is really friendly, especially the professional servers that work there, and trying to do there best, except for the blond one. Sometimes its getting to annoying when you are trying to concentrate on your food and on the person that you have come with, and somebody is bothering you every five minutes,by asking different que... read more

Great Food, Great Waitress, Slower Service – Shogun has been my favorite place for the last couple of years due to its great athmosphere, traditional Japanese decor ( ask to be seated in a booth) and nice & friendly waitresses(especially the girls from Eastern Europe). Their sushi used to be the best in town, but not anymore. They are still delicious, however every time I come the portions are getting smaller & smaller. That's disappointing, guys.. And sometimes you have to wait a long time for your sushi rolls, though the r... read more

Creative rolls but pricey – I am in town on business, and chose this restaurant based on the reviews on this site. This restaurant was a decent place, but it definitely was more mediocre than I had expected from the reviews. They had some pretty creative rolls on the menu as well. I thought their selections were limited, their portions were quite small for the price, and the restaurant had an odd smell -- like a stuffy old bar. Despite the small portion sizes, I thought the food was of decent quality. I also enjoyed their at... read more

I've been eating sushi in SLC for 16 years and Sho Gun is by far the best – Sho Gun is my favorite sushi restaurant in town. I love the authentic feel and the variety of seating styles. Sitting at the bar is a must so you can watch sushi chef Kesuke work his magic. The best rolls are the Mexico, Pray for Snow and Caterpillar. If you aren't into sushi their Unagi Don bowl is amazing.

Good sushi without the crowds – The Shogun is a consistent favorite of mine. The sushi is good. The cooks are great and effecient with their work. The staff is friendly although the waitress' do need some occasional help discovering how to wait tables. If you don't mind smiliing and gently proding the waitrons this is a good choice. The rolls make up for it.
