No wonder it's empty on a Friday night – My friends and I just left Shogun and were pretty disappointed. The place was empty and our service was still awful. After I paid for a 9 dollar Sapporo, my bill wasn't even added up correctly. For a party of 3 she went ahead and added an 18 percent gratuity. The place is lame, if you're going to spend a bunch of money on okay sushi and drinks, at least go to Naked Fish or Ahh Sushi.
???? – i'm not sure why the last review was so bad. My friends and I went to Shogun yesterday and had a wonderful dinner. The restaurant looked and smelled clean and our server was super nice. My favorite roll was the Tiger roll and another roll that was deep fried and delishous. My friends and I didnt stay for happy hour but I hear they have some fresh in-house pot stickers for those who aren't the sushi type. Yummy!
Very sad..... – I went to happy hours last night, and... It is as has been told before. Sadly. Slow service, even when I was one of the first ones there! Sushi was good, and who can complain at 1/2 off? Here's a shocker - I noticed today that they overcharged my card by $46.00!
Dirty place – I'm form NYC and come to Salt Lake City alot on business. In NY we know what good customer service is and expect the same everywhere. Service is definately far from good in Shogun! The waiters are slow and tend to disapppear when you need them, and when you complain they show you thier bitchy attitudes. Sushi is not great either and after I saw a mouse under my table I was shocked!!!! And never coming beck there again!
Happy Hour! – My friends and I have been going to Shogun's happy hour for the last 3 weeks and can't get enough! There is a great crowd and I don't know if the DJ is there every night but he knows how to get people dancing. Last time we had dinner in those cute rooms where you take your shoes off and then waited for happy hour start. Great plan.
Great sushi, nice people!!! – I am from Japan and have been living in Salt Lake City for 18 years. I went to Shogun first time last week. I LOVE their sushi rolls. My favorite is the deep-fried sushi. (One whole roll is fried up like tempra) I never had this before and yum yum…I loved it! There are many other creative rolls with interesting ingredients (which I never encountered in Japan). The salad dressing was very interesting too….I want the recipe…. Servers were nice and friendly. Thank you Shogun, I had a great dinning ... read more
a bone fide smorgasborg of japanese restaurants – This place was AWFUL. But please....allow me to start at the beginning so you can get the entire visceral experience. I was walking along Main street looking for a place to eat a random lunch one day and I passed by Shogun. Okay. Walk into the "restaurant" (if it can be called that). There's a young man and a woman who look up at me with expressions between "What are YOU doing here?" and "Oh, crap. Now we have to work..." I literally took a step back like..."Are you...open?" ... read more
Consistently great traditional Japanese – My husband and I have been going to Shogun for years. We are treated very well and the food is consistently fresh and fabulous. There is an excellence that comes with many, many years of perfecting the art of Japanese food, presentation and service. Trent Alvey, SLC resident
Good Spirit, Good Times, Good Sushi & Great Sashimi – Have been enjoying this Japanese Restaurant for over 25 years. At first, it was called "Asakusa" and was under the masterful tutelage of "Chef Sempai." The spirit of his culinary artistry was truly amazing. I still miss him, and to date, in my mind, no one has yet been able to fill his shoes. With that said, there still have been some very excellent sushi chefs at Shogun since that time, some of which have moved on to create their own notable local restaurants. Currently ... read more
