Today, I received a call from Sentara Foot & Ankle regarding an appointment, but was told they couldn’t schedule it until they received authorization from my insurance. I was then informed that I would need to contact my insurance company to obtain the authorization myself. This struck me as odd, since I’ve never had to do this with any other provider or for any previous appointments. Well it has been 3 going to 4 attempts to have a routine 15 minute, reoccurring procedure done. It sounds silly but it is serious in this case. SENTARA FOOT AND ANKLE has rescheduled my 92year old father's toe nail cutting 4 times now, since last year. My father had a amputation on one toe because of bacteria reaching the toe bone. This service is available and paid by his insurance. But 15 minutes is too much to ask for. He does not have the mobility or understanding as to how to DIY. The front desk and staff are only fair for a number of reasons not worth going into. That said, the appointment with Dr. Callahan was exceptional, deserving a counterbalancing "6". It's a busy practice, but this very professional and patient gentleman took time to explain things very clearly. I feel very confident that the plantar fasciitis that has dogged my workout routine will resolve nicely. I would recommend him without reservation.
