For entrepreneurs from every stage from "startup" to "experienced" a SCORE mentor can help a business owner focus on the basics and details that often escape them. Assessing your strengths and weaknesses is the best way to utilize and address the tools you need to succeed!
Business response:
Ruth, Thank you so much for being an advocate for SCORE mentors and for sharing your insights. It's so helpful to those who are just starting out! Thank you again for taking time out to share this!
It was an ok experience attending a social media workshop. However, no one acknowledged me when I requested mentorship. That was upsetting for me.
I've been attending SCORE small business seminars & workshops for a couple of years. They cover a wide range of important topics for starting a small business. Had my first mentor session in November. Excellent and very helpful. Will continue to seek guidance in coming months.
Hopefully, things have changed since I went there, but when I first started my gift basket business, and wanted to know about partnerships and how to partner with another biz, they were no help at all, were incredibly condescending, (maybe it was because I am a Black woman) but I left feeling it wa the biggest waste of my time.
Business response:
Cassandra, as President of the Philadelphia chapter, apologizes for your past experience with SCORE. Yes, we have changed, with one change being a women serving as Chapter Chair. If you ever have need for future mentoring, please consider us again. You will have a different experience...Mary Livingston

The mentor is caring and he offered insightful advice. Thanks.
In a highly competitive, cluttered business landscape SCORE brings an invaluable opportunity for small business to learn from those who have "earned their stripes" in the real world and are willing to share their experience. Remember that "Experience is the hardest kind of teacher. It provides the test first and the lesson afterward."
