About this business

No one can cook up an Indian and Mediterranean fusion as good as Mohammed Bhatti, and to experience some of the greatest dishes from his kitchen you will have to come down to Safron Grill. Located in the Northgate tenement, this restaurant is easily recognizable with its vibrant red facade and is a local favorite. Be sure to try their signature dish, the famed butter chicken which is simmered in a rich tomato butter-cream-sauce. Other remarkable dishes on the menu include the traditional tikka masala, jaipuri masala and shis... read more

Finally some good Indian food at Northgate Mall – If you liked Cedars at Univ, you would love it. Similar Menu, Great tasting food in an upscale decor with a decent Bar. We ordered some grilled lamb which was amazingly tender and delicious. As an Indian I am usually critical of Indian food served in restaurants but the lamb blew my head off and I was licking my fork. Butter Chicken was tasty as well. Also ordered Garlic Naan which was soft and tasty as far as a Naan goes but had no garlic flavor at all. All dishes come with ... read more

What a treat! – I had a chance to try out the latest incarnation of Northgate restaurants last night -- Saffron -- and was blown away! The menu is an intelligent combination of Indian specialties combined with some Mediterranean dishes. I chose the butter chicken -- one of my favorite Indian dishes. This was without question the best Butter Chicken I've ever eaten, and I've had a lot of butter chicken in restaurants in NYC, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. The spices are perfect, the serving portion size is just right, and... read more

Best Indian/ Med in Washington!!! – This family has been in the resteraunt buisness for YEARS! They have perfected the spices in all of their dishes- one of a kind! Their menu is a large selection of anything you could think of- from Curries, to Tandoori, to even steaks and a few other American Entrees. The owner Muhammad really know his stuff- recipes have been in the family for years- also try their small sister resteraunt Taste of India on Roosevelt. Safron is the best spot for familly dinning (lrg or sml families) as wel... read more

The best Tandoori chicken and the best service! – This is a jewel of a restaurant. Very open and beautifully decorated. We've been enjoying Indian food for over 25 years in the NW and Saffron Grill is the best of the best. The Biryani rice dish is delicious with perfectly cooked rice and wonderful flavors. I've never had better Tandoori chicken anywhere. The boneless chicken is moist, tender and wonderfully seasoned. I always plan to take part of it home for a snack but I can't stop going for one last taste until it's gone. ... read more

Great new Spot in Northgate! – This place is gorgeous inside since it's remodel from what it was before. the bar area is cool. I tried the butter chicken as it is my comparison bar for indian food, and loved it. It's what you would expect from the owner that brought us Taste of India & Cedar's I found out. Two really great spots in the U-district. You will like this place even more since it's a little more open and airy feeling. Also Parking!! There is some which is great.

Overpriced, menus are icky – They serve grocery store stalish buns swimming in olive oil to start. The waitress assured us that people love it but I can't imagine that dipping said buns in oil, wouldn't suffice. The burgers were inexcusably dry. Although my Cobb salad was layed out in stripes by ingredient - which looked lovely - this forced me to spend about five minutes adding my dressing and tossing it. The menus are greasy and gross and need to be replaced immediately. Totally overpriced although I must say, it looks muc... read more

Good food, slow service, high prices – The first time I stepped into Berkshire Grill I was surprised by the ambience and decor because I figured it wouldn't be as nice of a restaurant due to its locale. We've been here a few times and each time we had to wait 5-10 minutes to be seated only to walk into an empty dining room - kinda strange. I really like the bread and pesto olive oil that they serve, and I think that I've ordered the filet each time I've been there and loved it. I thought that the price was a little high, aga... read more
