Regarding Rustin Barlow: While speaking very intelligently, one should be very careful in taking Dr. Berlow’s opinions de facto. He is a very intelligent man who seems to take a patient’s well being as a primary motivation; however, one should not choose his fast pace in diagnosing a patient without getting a SECOND OPINION by an equivalent physician as soon as possible. Addionally, one should always receive a receipt for cash payments and a detailed invoice with proper “ICD” codes.

Called for my daughter and got an appointment the same day. After only one week things are much much better. Nothing is more important to me. I’m glad we found him.

Dr Berlow has been amazing for my son and myself. His expertise in MTHFR was critical in finding the right solutions and I appreciate his willingness to use creative and alternative solutions to treat physiological causes to mental health issues. When we started, my son was in a dark place. Two years later, he is happy and healthy and working on his future. I am so grateful for Dr Berlow!

If you see Dr. Berlow and are not getting better PLEASE get a second opinion. With Dr B. I did a longer then average course of TMS, I was on a handful of medications, & I was not getting any better. TMS had NO lasting effect on my depression. Yes, Dr.Berlow will return your text messages 24/7. But if you are not getting better what does that matter? His availability is great but it won't relieve your depression. It's overwhelming to look for a new psychiatrist. But it may save your life.

Business response:

I'm sorry that you had an unfulfilling experience. If you did a longer TMS course it was no charge beyond #30 (since 6/2016) Because I am committed to help I remove barriers to recovery when possible. About 1 out of 7 of my patients get TMS. It is not for everyone. 2d opinions: I agree & have changed my policy. Get as many second opinions as you wish as long as only one doctor prescribes. I am human. I do my best. The fact that you got better is what counts. Who did it doesn't matter to me.

My wife had gone to neurologists and psychiatrists for several decades growing out of closed head trauma, resulting in various problems. Other doctors just added to the pills she was taking, resulting in almost a page of meds. We asked a psychologist for a recommendation, explaining our decades long search. She highly recommended Dr. Berlow, whom she described as extremely bright and intuitive. After discussion, Dr. B reduced the pills by 2/3 and moved others. My wife dramatically improved

When I moved to San Diego from the Midwest I needed to find a doctor here to refill my medications. I looked online, called the number, he answered the phone and offered an appointment the same day. This was good since I was out of medication. the place was easy to find and there was lots of parking nearby. After filling out a few question nnaires, we met and he asked a few questions and gave me refills and an appointment for one month. Waiting room people said good things

Dr. Berlow has been extremely compassionate, conscientious and helpful. His dedication to thorough and accurate diagnosis, and flexible treatment options has produced better results for my daughter than I had dared even hope for. We are so grateful for this man!

I was a long-time patient of Dr Berlow. At first I thought he was going to really help me with my conditions. But the longer I was his patient the more it became apparent that he is self-obsessed and more concerned about himself than his patients. At times he is inappropriate and unprofessional. He will tell you need Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). I think he must make a lot of money on TMS--it is very expensive. None of the medications or the TMS helped me. And he misdiagnosed me.

Business response:

Thank you for your feedback. I have taken into consideration what you have said. Obviously, I would never want to have any patient be so dissatisfied. I apologize that you did not get the experience that you wanted.

I have been seeing Dr. Berlow for about three years for depression and anxiety. My results have been phenomenal and far above any expectations I ever had. He was able to stabilize me with careful, precise medication, then ween me off almost all of the medication using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Dr. Berlow and his staff are compassionate professionals. There is no question that Dr. Berlow considers his profession a calling to help people live healthier, happier lives.
