Russian Tea Time

About this business

Dark, cozy, elegant and intimate, Russian Tea Time has only been here since 1993, however it has since become a Chicago treasure. Inside the elegant Mahogany and Birch dining room, the kitchen serves specialties from the former Soviet republics which includes every where from Tajikistan to Belarus. Start with the Ukrainian Borscht and Pumpkin Vareniki dumplings, then move on to the Moldavian Meatballs while you let your ears wander to the sound of Balalaika music overhead. This has become a popular spot with nearby Symphony ... read more

Interesting Russian food. Tasty family platters/ sampler plate, they say they are for 2 people , but we must of had 1-2 lbs of food leftover and both of us ate too much. Try the platters but split them 3-4 ways .

A wide selection of pretty good food, covering not just Russian cuisine but other former members of the USSR. Service was effective if somewhat terse, though perhaps that fits the theme. Décor was generally nice but the ceiling tiles do need to be replaced. The dessert menu was the only real disappointment, with nothing that really grabbed our interest. Overall value was only fair -- $80 for two appetizers, two entrees, two ice cream servings, and one iced tea.
