Very nice restaurnat in suburban area – My wife and I learned about the Roots from Portland Monthly Magazine. As a regular customer at Higgins, we were interested in how ?Higgins? foods transformed in to a new generation of restaurant. WHAT?!?! $37 for overcooked Filet Mignon?!?! – Well we enjoy Roots and they have times of greatness and other times they fall flat. Actually each time I try to order a steak here it comes out bad. So - go for the standbys.... great salads (especially the spinach) and the pork is good, excellent happy hour - but do NOT order a steak. Great Food, Great Service......Again – My wife and I have been to this gem on numerous occasions, Lunch, Dinner, Brunch, it doesn't matter, everytime we go, the food and the service have been great. Finally a great food north of the river – After hearing many rave reviews about this place, my husband and I decided to give it a try. We started in the bar, the bartender was top notch and very friendly as well. For dinner my husband had the steak, which was cooked to perfection and I had the Pork Chop which I will definately go back for. Arrogant creepy server, great food – Our server quickly sized us up when we did not order high dollar bottles of wine and we barely saw him. He was arrogant and pretentious. The food was fantastic, reasonably priced and good portions. I ended up taking home part of my dinner so that I could enjoy a fabulous desert. The place is a bit noisy and the chairs are butt numbing, but it was a romantic spot for an anniversary dinner. I would go again and just ask specifically for one of the women servers, they both seemed great!
Best Brunch, Bartender, Serivce, and Food in the Portland Area – We moved up from the Bay Area earlier this year, and this has become "our place" The servers are very friendly. The food is amazing - fresh local flare with a bit of southern touches. The corn beef and has for Sunday brunch is amazing! We did a mixology class there recently with 6 friends... Love these people – 2 Candles - Have eaten here lunch, dinner and during happy hour. We even had Thanksgiving dinner ther this past year. Always have exceptional service and never been disappointed with the food. The opportunity to sit at the bar overlooking the kitchen area (as an avid "home chef" ) it is pleasure to watch the professionals work - no "Hell's Kitchen" here. Will always go back and treat our out of town guests.
Great Service, dining and Honesty also – The host was very friendly, the service was great and the food was outstanding. In addition I must say that who I believe is the owner and chef caught up with us on our way to the car and pointed out that we had left a one hundred dollar bill mixed in with the twenties to pay our tab.
