Roots is one of the best coffee shops in Grand Rapids. It is great for entrepreneurs, digital natives, hanging out, Bible studies and more. Check it out and say hello to Mallory and Austin the owners! They are wonderful people!
I have been here three times now and hope the drinks improve each time I stop in... But they never do. I love the atmosphere and the location, and the bagels are awesome. However, something about any of the espresso and coffee drinks - my friends who I've taken with me have also agreed - just don't taste right. I don't know if the beans they use aren't strong enough or something? All I taste for $6 is flavor and steamed milk. It's just continually disappointing when I take that first sip. I loved going to this place, I have recently moved to New York City but I keep dreaming of this coffee shop, the employees, atmosphere, and coffee all A+ can wait to stop in during the holidays
It's a great little shop but easy on the Sufjan! He's great but I may not be able to listen to him for a few years if he's played too much.. Also, sometimes I feel like I'm in church. One time a huge group of people was just praying loudly and you could just TELL that the people there who just wanted to drink coffee and look up YouTubes of dog tricks were confused and uncomfortable. Which is fine and it's your shop, not mine. But us people who like to sin a lot and aren't terribly churchly would probably spend a little more ... read more
What a beautiful space. It feels local, welcoming neighboring residents and businesses into personal and professional meetings. The people frequenting are doing good work in our communities and the staff is welcoming and encouraging. Every drink I've had there has been magnificent.
