It can't be improved because it is corrupt.

So glad I let my membership lapse. RWA should be supporting all romance writers-not just the NWL.

In order to improve, I think the whole thing needs to be burned to the ground and started over with a strict 'no effing racist mess' policy. I am so disappointed that racism and preserving the status quo of white heteronormative romance and protecting publishing companies over authors is deemed of more value than pushing back against racism.

Given the RWA's history with racism and discrimination against POC and LGBTQA+ authors and stories, I'm not sure the organization can be saved.

Racism has no place in any organization and this one is rife with it.

They don’t treat authors of color or members of the LGBTQIA+ community with the dignity and respect that they deserve. They seem to operate as a cabal of Nice White Ladies, who reject anything that doesn’t fit into their tiny, white, and heterosexual box. The recent revelations regarding shady behavior including sweeping overt racism under the rug and failing to fight for authors who have yet to be paid their royalties from publishers make me wonder exactly why RWA exists.
