RecommendedRDU is one of the better airports to catch a flight out of. make sure you have precheck and you can usually get through security in under 20 minutes. There are plenty of food and veverage options. and lots of gift shops inside the airport. terminals are small enough you don't have to run but big enough you can always find room to sot and there are areas at every gate to charge your phone/laptop.

So far no good. Sitting on the tarmac for 20 minutes waiting for a gate to open. Really????
It seems we always have to wait on the tarmac for a gate when arriving as no gate is available. On departure, due to a joint replacement, one is subjected to the most intrusive pat down I have have ever had and I have travelled a lot both domestically and internationally in airports with very high security alerts. Had I known the level of intrusivness I would have gone to a private room instead of having to be subjected to this in public. It was well beyond what is needed for public safety.
