We are a bike shop, but we try to be more than that. The most important thing to us is that you get on a bike and ride to your heart’s content. We want to make sure you get on the best bike for you. Thursday nights we’re open late. Come over for food, drinks, and conversation! We have comfortable couches and a charming staff. Most of all, we have really cool customers. Come in and meet them: recreational cyclists, roadies, commuters, mountain bikers, cyclocross racers, fixed-gear fans and everyone in between.

Great bunch of guys n gals...
I am so happy with the sales, service, support, and social opportunities provided by Proteus. They have helped me in so many ways in 2016. I consider the Proteus team to be the best in the Metro Washington area. I certainly have new friends too, thanks to the numerous shop rides. I urge prospective bicyclists to go to Proteus and buy from them. The team there will fit you to a very nice bicycle and help you get started with bicycling.
Proteus is a great store with staff who are willing to assess and look at your needs as a cyclist. It's so easy to feel comfortable there since there's a wide range of cyclists there ranging from the beginner, to commuters, to MTB racers. I have always felt welcomed there even with my own specialized needs as a blind cyclist.
First time in the shop and every one of the employees were friendly, helpful, and easy going. Not only did I get some tubes for my bike, but also an invite to their next potluck, info on a local theatre/arts spot to check out, and tips on how to properly change my tire (since I'm a newbie). Coming from KY I thought I was going to miss awesome local businesses who not only invest in their products, but the community and people around them, but this place proved me wrong! Great service, very knowledgeable and welcoming! As a beginner who knows nothing about cycling (and am a little nervous about sharing the road with cars), I appreciated that they were incredibly patient with me and answered all of my dumb questions and offered reassurance. Just picked up my Bianchi Torino and can't wait to get pedaling!
