About this business

One of the best places in town for a candlelight dinner, Portofino specializes in romantic interludes. The long wine list will start your evening right. If you are lacking ideas as to what to order, try the six-course meal that includes everything from appetizer to dessert. If you still cannot decide, the Mattonelle—extra-large ravioli stuffed to the hilt with cheese, spinach and tomatoes, then topped with a tomato-pesto sauce—is always a great bet. Service adhered to a high level and the atmosphere is welcoming ... read more

Wonderful-Can't Miss!!! – I would highly recommend this restaurant to all my friends. The service is top notch and the atmosphere very charming. I eat here almost every week and the staff treats me like family. The husband and wife couple who run Portofino?s have an impressive knowledge of all things pertaining to fine food and wine in addition to being some of the friendliest people around. They even added my favorite beverage to the bar selection! I?m a big fan of ?Seth?s marinara? that you will find on the menu and the fl... read more

An absolute Homerun! – Believe it or not, I had never heard of this place and just happened to be walking by and decided to call some others to meet me for some dinner. To say that we were pleased would be a massive understatement. I found it extremely refreshing that the new owner, Seth, was out on the front lines as a waiter. All of our questions (and believe me there were quite a few with such an extensive wine selection) were answered completely and not in a rushed feeling despite the numerous other filled tables. The re... read more

Top Notch – We noticed that this place had changed hands, and we have not really gone much since the original owner sold it years ago. Glad to see the new owners and the chef they brought in from Vail, CO, making it more casual, lower prices, and better food. This place now reminds me, both in food and decor, of 3 Doors Down before they expanded and went upscale. Everything was excellent, well everything except the bread they serve (however I'm sure with all the bakeries in town they will find something better). We have foun... read more

My favorite Sellwood trattoria – My favorite neighborhood trattoria. I visit here at least weekly and often bring friends. A small opening at the rear of the restaurant shows chef Scott preparing the evening's repast. Seth and Chantal (new owners) always have a friendly greeting. The menu contains some great standbys, and the chef usually has a few seasonal fresh suprises. There is always a very decent selection of wines by the glass and they change frequently enough that one can taste something new. The deserts always look ... read more

Best Tiramisu – On the way home we decided to stop in Sellwood for dinner. What a treat! I had the Chicken cacciatore. The chicken was so tender it melted in my mouth. The vegetables were locally grown and purchased at the local farmer's market. As if it could not get any better. Topping off the dinner was the best Tiramisu that I have ever tasted. I order Tiramisu whenever I find a restaurant that serves it. This was the tops of the top. The new owners were warm and friendly. I am sure that is what gives the restaurant its ... read more

Food! Wine! Charm! – My family and I hadn't been to Portofino in a number of years. We heard it changed hands recently and decided to give it another try. Everything from the tomatoes on our caprese, gnocchi in truffle butter, homemade marinara and too many others to name were simply incredible! My daughter is somewhat of a wine snob(she admits it), so I almost fell over when she announced she found the perfect bottle of wine for under $40. My husband's wallet was so relieved! The new owners seemed genuinely pleased to meet ... read more
