One of the best places in town for a candlelight dinner, Portofino specializes in romantic interludes. The long wine list will start your evening right. If you are lacking ideas as to what to order, try the six-course meal that includes everything from appetizer to dessert. If you still cannot decide, the Mattonelle—extra-large ravioli stuffed to the hilt with cheese, spinach and tomatoes, then topped with a tomato-pesto sauce—is always a great bet. Service adhered to a high level and the atmosphere is welcoming ... read more

Wonderful, romantic dining experience – My boyfriend and I went here for a special dinner and proceeded to have a FABULOUS meal. We first had the special bruschetta (there were artichoke hearts and sundried tomatoes involved.) We also were pleased to see Prosecco on the menu as it is our favorite wine. Turned out our waiter was the owner. He was very friendly and comfortable to talk to, and knew when to let us have "us" time. I had the chicken catchatori over a marscapone polenta. AMAZING. The owner (Seth?) told me that they... read more
Great people, great food – I've been to this restaurant many times with friends and it's always been wonderful. The people are friendly and attentive in a very genuine way, I never feel like they're being nice just to get a good tip. The food is absolutely heavenly as well. Anything with Italian sausage is highly recommended. As for the person who had a bad birthday experience there, stop complaining...The restaurant is small and very busy most of the time and I take it you didn't even have a reservation so to expect to be t... read more
Just fine – Funny how all the bad ratings showed up at once. I thought the service was was terrific. They were considerate and attentive. The penne with wild mushrooms and shrimp were properly cooked al dente. Squash soup was delicious. I will go back.
Blah. – This place seemed like it would be good from the outside but inside, it was a totally different story. My family and I went there for a birthday dinner and we were sat in the most awkward place. Seven of us were sat in the middle of the dining room during the dinner rush, it didn't seem right. Our server wasn't very pleasant either. My sister had wanted to switch her chair with another and the waiter acted as if we had just slapped him in his face. Everything we did that evening seemed to bother him or to be a total ... read more
disappointing service – My mom, sister & I stopped in here last Saturday before 6pm. We had no reservations but were given a table with a reservation on it for much later so all was well. The gentleman was very pleasant, trying to accomodate our dietary needs in the beginning (my mom & sister are vegan). When it was determined that my mom wasn't comfortable with not enough vegan options, we decided to finish our drinks and go elsewhere for dinner. The minute we did, our waiter literally whisked us up to the bar which seemed ... read more
Fab neighborhood bistro – A regular since the new ownership took over a year ago, Portofino is definitely hitting its stride with Jorge, the new chef. Daily pasta specials trade on fresh ingredients. One recent Friday night featured spinach lasagne noodles surrounding veal and pork with a tangy tomato sauce mingling with a sweet bechamel sauce. App. specials are equally wonderful, like a recent bruschetta with carmelized onions and sauted chicken liver. The lamb shank, roasted chicken and vodka sauce gemelli are great staple... read more
Overpriced, stuffy and not especially pleasant or helpful. – I brought the whole family (7 of us) there to celebrate 2 of the kids birthdays (BTW the kids are all in their 20's). The food was very disappointing--just a step up from the local pizza/italian restaurant but priced much, much higher. And, as we've done on other occasions, we brought a birthday cake with us to celebrate the birthdays. You would have thought we were asking them to give up their first born child! They were very unpleasant and unhelpful and finally o... read more
Wonderful birthday dinner – I planned a dinner at Portofino as a triple family birthday celebration on a recent Sunday night, and I couldn't have been happier with the entire experience. First of all, we had my 89 year old Grandmother with us, who walks with a cane and is not steady on her feet - one of our group went in first to tell the host that the rest of the group would be in soon and we were just walking slowly to accomodate my Grandmother, when the owner of the restaurant came out to the parking lot in back of the bu... read more
Fabulous food, friendly owners who love what they do – Portofino came under new ownership in late 2007 and the new owners brought their chef with them from Colorado. Since then, Portofino has been returned to its former glory as a neighborhood treasure. My husband and I are regulars on our Sunday date nights, and every meal has been delicious. The service is attentive, they are rarely out of anything on the menu even on a Sunday night, and the daily specials are always intriguing. The desserts are always yummy too?I can't wa... read more
