Since 1953, The Port Drive-In has been serving hot dogs and frosty mugs of creamy, old-fashioned root beer. Originally called Studman’s, it was purchased in 1957 by Elsie & Virgil Gassoway, renamed the Snack Shack, and then renamed to its current name, The Port. In 1978, Terry & Beth Gassoway purchased the business from Terry’s parents after managing it for them for several years. We use to go here all the time when the kids were younger and we went to the beach, my kids are grown now and I have brought the grandkids. The Port has never lost its its charm and every time I am in Chesterton I make sure to stop there.
Love the classic feel and the homemade root beer is delicious!!!
