The construction of Point Betsie Light began in 1854 and was completed in 1858 to look over the transport of ships on Lake Michigan. The lighthouse was extended to add a life saving station in 1875. The light was upgraded to the third order with bulls eye in 1880 after being originally equipped with a Fresnel Lens of the Fourth order. Standing at a height of 37 feet (11 meters), upgrades were made in the lens to reach higher distances and they currently use the VRB-25 optical system. It's like you stepped into a storybook, far far away. But it's only Up N and easy to get to. With water that looks like an ocean and a lighthouse with so much charisma! This is a magical place that is now our special place!
We visit this every year to watch the beautiful sunsets. It's only about 15 miles from our cabin. Love Michigan light houses.
